I have no evidence and no real idea, but if I were sending these out–I’d do it on my way out the door on a Friday afternoon. That way I wouldn’t start getting ***?? responses until Monday–when there was some time to cool off.

Same reason bad news press releases get sent out on Fridays and Saturdays.

Just did the “live chat” thing. Here’s the transcript:

Merrie: Hi, my name is Merrie. How may I help you?
tougis: Hi. I’m just wondering what about 30K others are wondering–whether your next round of notifications will emerge today.
Merrie: We have heard nothing.
tougis: From whom would you hear something?
Merrie: We are in undergraduate admissions call center and all we’ve been told is that you will hear in early April at the latest but you might hear earlier. We get our information from admissions counselors.
tougis: Aha. I guess I can just add those of you in the call center to the 30K then.
Merrie: yes you can!
Merrie: anything else?
tougis: OK–Have a nice weekend.
Merrie: you too.

You are all approaching this the wrong way. Michigan will most likely respond between March 25 and April 10. You should not expect…or hope for anything before then. To do so will only invite anxiety and frustration. Of course, should you hear back before then, it would be great, but it is HIGHLY unlikely. What happened in years past is no longer happening. Michigan has shifted its approach to admissions as a result of doubling its applicant pool in 4 years. It can no longer adopt a rolling approach.

It still says on the Michigan undergraduate admission web page that notifications are sent on a rolling basis. If that’s not true, don’t you think they have a responsibility to change the page?

We were on campus for visits last weekend and were told by both CoE and regular admissions that they would be releasing more acceptances: one in mid Feb (which has clearly passed) and one in Mid March. Admissions committee had met last week and would be releasing another round soon. Maybe next week?

Tougis, the University definitely releases decisions between now and April 10. I am not suggesting otherwise. All I am saying is to manage your expectations. You may get an answer soon, but you may not. It is best to expect nothing until late March.

chefmomm, Michigan is used to handling 20,000 or 25,000 applicants. All of a sudden, the same admissions office must contend with processing 50,000 applicants for the same yield and the same number of acceptances. While it could once admitted a significant percentage of qualified applicants, Michigan will not be rejecting the majority of such applicants.

Hey guys, just want you to know that I got an acceptance email last Thursday the 21st, so they should be sending the rest out soon I would think. Definitely keep checking your email if you haven’t been!

this is the email I received
Thank you for your interest in the University of Michigan. You will hear back on your decision no later than Early April. It is possible that you could hear back sooner but there is no specific time frame for that.
