@offdablock I did that and I was able to make a ‘Friend Account’ but I can’t find my University of Michigan ID anywhere. Any suggestions?
@comet712 Once you log into Wolverine Access, click on the yellow “Students” tab at the top left of the page. Then click on the second link “New & Prospective Student Business.” This will direct you to your portal. Scroll all the way to the top and click on the leftmost link titled “Application Status.” Your Michigan ID should be displayed at the top.
@HopeTwoGoBlue time to have “the” talk with your daughter. Let her know the chances of being accepted EA are very slim and don’t get to worked up over this etc etc. Too many kids are disappointed and then accepted after being deferred… or not.
Alumni parents got a 2nd email asking they not read too much into the first,
I can tell you that Michigan may have sent this email to all alums this year - but I have a junior and a freshman who both were admitted EA in December and we did NOT get ANY email of this type.
@Knowsstuff Absolutely! We’ve been very clear and realistic, but the teenage mind…
i had the same problem. apparently, they sent you an email after you applied including your UMID. However, since it was considered spam, it got automatically deleted before i saw it. I just chatted with someone from the help line and they gave it to me after i answered some verification questions.
Another email was sent clarifying first email - said it was sent to all alumni. Maybe only oos alumni? Those that say they did not receive email, are you in state or oos?
My husband is an OOS alum and we did not receive the email. Now I am worried that our child’s legacy status was not noted…what will be will be I guess!
So strange. This is literally the first sentence of the email: This email was distributed to alumni parents of our Early Action applicants in an effort to share information regarding the application process.
Wonder if it has to do with who is deferred vs. accepted?
Were instate and my alum mother recieved the emails
I get that these schools are concerned about yield, which is fine. But the idea that they try to guess the odds of each student accepting seems (to me) like such a game, and a waste of everyone’s time. Why not just offer Early Decision? My son applied ONLY to U-M (so he’s going to have a bummer of a last week in December if he gets deferred). Will he get deferred just because an admissions officer is guessing that he applied to an Ivy? I wish he had fully understood the game, in which case he could have stated more plainly on his essay that Michigan is his “only” choice. I also wonder how many students they lose this way, like @robbyb. It will be ironic if they defer my son and he ends up choosing a school that he applied to only because he was deferred.
@mckate I totally agree with you. It seems like such a shell game.
Yeah, I agree. It is really difficult for a school to predict the future freshman class size and which students will increase yield without overenrolling, so Michigan has implemented conservative admissions policies which rely heavily on the waitlist and deferrals. It ends up being a game of strategy loathed by parents but it is the only option for the university as it strives to “improve” itself and choose students who they feel are both committed to the school and the right fit for it. ED might solve this issue, but many students(myself included) are unable to commit no matter how badly they want to due to circumstance. That is one thing I appreciate about early action schools, and part of the reason why UM remains at the top of my list, regardless of the deferral reputation the school has.
Are we positive decisions come out December 24? Or will they come out earlier?
Pretty sure it’s by December 24, so it could be earlier
They should send a “how to access your portal” email prior to the decisions. All we can do is try to salvage a great holiday season
I am a legacy parent of EA applicant in Michigan. I did not receive an email.
Hey everyone I’m a freshman at umich so I know how you are feeling rn. Just wanted to let you guys know that I got my EA decision on Dec 20th last year to give you an idea!
Just to repeat again, @SingingBusDriver who seems to know UM admissions, probably an insider, stated EA decisions should be released Wednesday 12/19.
Last year, the EA decisions for the class of 2022 were released on Wednesday 12/20.
