That’s all fine, and I think many older brothers in that situation would do the same. But even with blood brothers, calling the police on the offending brother is going to be a rare event, even less so with fraternity brothers, as the original comment proposed.
What about looking out for others before they get to the point that they are so wasted they think causing tens of thousands of dollars of property damage was a good idea?
If you are really a person who would do this, you probably wouldn’t be in the frat–or on the ski trip–in the first place.
I think it’s fair to say that there may have been people at the event who had nothing to do with the damage, and may not have even known about it until after the fact. What are the facilities like? Are there multiple buildings where people were staying, for example?
While I admit to being prejudiced against fraternities, I also don’t usually like collective punishment when the responsibility for bad actions rests on identifiable individuals. It may not be so easy to tell where the responsibility should lie based on media reports.
I heard this on the radio today http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2015/01/26/6-fraternities-sororities-suspend-u-m-chapters-in-vandalism/
Hunt, I’ve been to both resorts and as I understand it, at Treetops they were at the hotel. At Boyne they were in condos. Both resorts have hotels rooms and condos to rent.

Collective punishment by the college, or by the national organization?
Per the link above, the 6 nationals each suspended their chapters on the Michigan campus. My house is one of the 3 mentioned and I’m just fine with our national suspending the Michigan chapter for the time being. That’s what I expect them to do.
An article that appeared today in The Free Press http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2015/02/07/fallout-ski-resort-vandalism/23050399/
OMG, if this one kid (who wasn’t there) were my son, I’d be sending him to a work camp instead of college. Little entitled brat.
@sally305 Totally agree with you! As I read his utterly stupid comments, my first thought was “his parents must be so proud.” Maybe his future prospective employer will see this video someday. Hopefully. I have three sons and I can honestly say that participating in something like this would never even enter their minds. They would be horrified.
Oh for the love of god. Put a sock in that kids mouth. And make him pay for the damages even if he wasn’t there if he thinks is no big deal.
Future captain of industry right there…smart enough to be admitted into the business school but not smart enough to understand a thing about business.
OMG that kid… really doesn’t get it. it’s like he’s not past the “wow, cube tower, bam me strike it down” mentality. It seems that, to him, if the fraternities pay for the damages, all is well.
The behavior that led to having to pay clearly is of no import.
However, the fact it seems so “normal”, so “par for the course”, is telling about what some of these fraternities have been up to or how they advertise themselves. (Note I didn’t say ALL fraternities, but clearly these fraternities have a reputation so that “vandalism and destruction of property” does not sound far-fetched. Let alone in the astounding amounts of damage involved at both locations.)
So a ski resort is severely damaged to the tune of $100,000, the reputation of Michigan is smeared along with the reputation of the frats and Ryan Vanslck’s response is “party on?” What an absolute horse’s *ss. Someone needs to sit that boy down and have a chat. And the stupidity of saying something like that to the national press……………
@harvestmoon1, and @sally305 you are ABSOLUTELY 100% correct.
LOL.
I wonder if he is one of the students who would turn in a paper with the word “Natzi” in it.
I think all the kids involved should be made to clean up a crack house in Detroit as their “restitution” outside of money damages. The resorts probably don’t want them back. And maybe they can take their d**chey friend Ryan with them.
I wonder how Ryan would feel if criminals came and ruined his property. No harm, no foul, as long as they write a check for the damage? I doubt it.
Ryan is from an expensive suburb of NYC. He probably can’t imagine something like that happening in his neighborhood.
Heavy objects can go through the windshields of SUVs in Ann Arbor. Frat guys have experimented with that in the past. I’m just saying.
I hope police press charges against those entitled little snots. Peeing on the carpets? They need to go back in their crates until they’re housebroken.
‘Back’ in their crates? Maybe the fact that they were raised in crates might explain this behavior. Can’t learn to behave like a human being if you’ve never tried it before!
