<p>I'm considering whether or not I should go out of state or stay and attend the University of Minnesota's Honors program (within the College of Science and Engineering). Has anybody had positive or negative experiences in the honors program? Also, how many honors classes do most honors kids take? I'm concerned that there won't be enough honors courses for me to take, which would be a deterring factor. </p>

<p>Anthony, you can always drop the honors program a year or two into your education. My son will be a senior this year in Electrical Engineering (he is doing the 5 year master’s program so will start grad classes this year). He was glad he did honors for the first two years (priority housing, organized study groups and one on one advising) as he fulfilled honors requirements by taking the honors calc and physics instead of the engineering ones for a few of the classes. He has said it is more challenging to find honor’s courses for CSE kids versus for some of the other programs. Junior year he took one honors course and then was able to count his summer internship and also his tutoring gig. The senior design thesis for honors kids is 2 semesters versus 1 semester for non honors. I suppose by the time you get to senior year, the main benefit is that it might help you get your first job. (honors grad would look amazing on a resume)</p>

<p>Agree with Kajon but be aware getting into Honors for CSE is very tough. ACTs scores for honors admits was around 35 this year. </p>
<p>U of M also requires honors to get to latin honors. So if you get your honors degree you will also graduate summa/magna cum laude. </p>
