I will ask this question…if you end up not majoring in engineering, what could you see yourself majoring in?

I ask this because lots of students at both schools wash out of engineering. Iowa State uses the frosh and soph years to weed out low performing engineering students. My son just completed Calc 1 at Iowa State after taking AP Calc in HS and did pretty well in the AP course. He struggled with Calc 1 at Iowa State. How well prepared are you for math, chem, physics at the college level? If you are not well prepared, then be prepared to work your *** off at both schools.

Ames is a small town, half the size of Columbia, so fewer options for eating out, shopping, nightlife, etc.

Iowa State is stronger in engineering, agriculture (most ag students are not farmers…lots of really great majors for those interested in science related careers and business), and Design (art, architecture, graphic design, apparel design, etc).

Business Colleges are probably similar.

Mizzou will be stronger in the humanities, journalism, some social sciences, performing arts, and health science related majors.
