My daughter was also offered admission to Gateway, and we attended the February 26 information session (and she’s on the groupchat too). I think she went into that session thinking the ND Gateway program was not for her–she was worried that she wouldn’t make the 3.5 and wouldn’t be able to transfer to ND after the first year, leaving her with no good options for the remainder of her college career. But meeting the current Gateway students and the students who would be in the 2022 cohort made her feel much more positive about the program, and she appreciates that all the current students expressed a sense of working together for a common goal–that all of them would transfer to ND at the end of the first year. She is still deciding between Gateway and a small liberal arts college, but the Gateway program seems to make ND into a much smaller school, in a way, which she likes. She may wait until the very last minute to make this decision, but I think she is thinking very positively about Gateway and ND at this point.
For those of you whose children are still undecided, I definitely recommend the Gateway info session!
My son will be part of this Gateway 6.0 too! What’s the groupchat thing? He’s excited to get in touch with fellow classmates. We attended the March 9 info session - there were a lot of cancellations that weekend due to snow.
That’s great @sunnyPA6 Have your son DM my daughter and she can add him to the group. Since this is a public site and I don’t see a private message option, I’ll write this a little cryptic… megan followed by last name rogers followed by 00 (all one word with no spaces) Let me know if that works!
Here for tomorrow’s tour…For those of you who’ve already been to HC-ND Gateway overview/tour - - Any advice for where best parking is? Other pointers about the day are welcome, thanks!
Yes Congrats to Sam & all those who have already decided to commit to the class of 2022! At orientation, the panel mentioned there were a little more than 100 students invited to the gateway program this term and that they were looking to expand from last year, hoping for about 70 or so students for this upcoming class. Does anyone know if they would cap it off at that or would they let in 82, or 96 or 103 if let’s say that’s how many say yes?? ((I get not everyone who is invited will say yes but let’s pretend this happens.)) Can they turn anyone away once they’re invited?
@OurLadyRocks Congratulations! You certainly can rely on the offer to be valid until requested response date on your Admission Letter (May 1st?). ND and Holy Cross are in position to predict yield for admitted Gateway students quite accurately and they presumably would have no issue to accommodate some additional Gateway students for the coming academic year, should their estimate come in at the low end of the actual 2018-2019 yield rate. Best of luck for your/your student’s decision!
Gateway parents/students: taking a poll on how you’re wording your high school grad announcements. Just curious.
“ __ is graduating from abc high school and will be attending __.
a) University of Notre Dame-Holy Cross
b) University of Notre Dame-Gateway Program
( or either of the above, reversed order)
Other options please post. Looking for simple and easiest way to avoid the whole explanation conversation
Thank you!
Thanks to all for the awesome info. My daughter just got the news about Gateway 2023 acceptance. Honestly had not heard about this program at our campus visit or the rep’s visit to her school. After reading your notes, visiting the FB page, etc., tonight we are seeing what a blessing this may be.
Just curious because our D has a friend who was deferred this year. Can a deferred student get an invitation to the Gateway program during the RD round or would it have come now?
@Tea4Two Both selected ND REA and RD applicants are being invited to the HC/ND Gateway program. This has been changed and optimized in recent years, previously Gateway invitations had come out at the end of the RD cycle, only.
Sorry for delay @HM0527, it’s been a year since I’ve logged in! I’m pretty sure we chose “a” for grad invites.
Just wanted to say our son was officially accepted yesterday as a transfer to ND! His year at HCC-Gateway program was well worth the few minor bumps along the way. I know he fell asleep with a giant smile on his face last night knowing his hard work paid off
A big thank you to Emily the Gateway Coordinator and the professors at HCC for their input, guidance and encouragement throughout the year. Emily is a huge blessing to the kids and the program!
Does anyone know if ND mails a hard copy of the official transfer letter of acceptance?
