As of yesterday I got accepted into LPS!
@undercovertofu CONGRATS. So happy for you. Hope to see you there.
Hello, I have two questions:
Do I still have time sending my updated college transcript?
Which email address do you guys contact with? I wrote two emails last week, but nobody replied.
@undercovertofu Congratulations!!
Hey everyone, just out of curiosity what was the main theme your “Why Penn” essay?.
- I’m not sure what you mean by updated, they will release decisions before the semester ends so we’ll have to send an updated college transcript on a later date (after acceptance if applicable).
- Regarding your application checklist eapps@admissions.upenn.edu
@mattmckenney7 No real “theme”. Just talked about how I’m pursuing my academic/extracurricular interests.
Hi all,
This year admissions decisions will be posted later in May (re: early May release) to align more with other schools and to ensure that financial aid is included with the admission letter. That way it makes things less stressful when making a decision to go to x school.
Source: transfer student heavily involved in the transfer community
If that were the case, that would be very counterproductive. First of all, the beginning of may is more in line with other schools and second of all, what if you don’t get financial aid anyways?
@Vincent1997 By other schools I mean the other Ivies. And often what happens with the early May notification is that financial aid packages are not ready. Students then have to ask for extensions before they can make their decisions–which is extremely stress-relieving to those who need financial aid (which, by the way, is a majority of the incoming transfers).
So wouldn’t the smart solution be to simply extend the deadline for all? I mean some schools give you three or more months to commit.
Yes and no. From Penn’s perspective they’re trying to juggle the waitlist, budget, and accomodating varying amounts of students.
@nirvanafan007 Are you 100% sure that decisions will be delayed?
@undercovertofu how did you get accepted to LPS if decisions are not yet out? I thought May was when decisions were released.
@rosen1999 LPS operates separately from the other schools. They don’t use the common app either.
@und888 Regardless of a transfer student’s involvement in the transfer community, the ONLY people who know when decisions are released are in admissions, and I highly doubt they are sharing that info with the student body, transfers or not.
The logic doesn’t hold either - if an accepted student has to ask for an extension at another college while waiting for Penn’s FA, wouldn’t they still have to ask for one while waiting for the delayed decision?
And even more protected would be the percentage of transfer students requiring FA … no current student would have that info either.
I believe this is just speculation … and without an actual communication from Penn regarding decisions would assume it is still the beginning of May, as always …
@betwixt I certainly hope you’re right! The less we need to wait, the better.
All I can add to this issue is that at the information transfer session held at Penn a couple of months ago, the Penn admissions representative said that unlike previous years, the decisions would be issued on the Portal mid-May to align with other schools, so that prospective admitted transfer students could have the decisions at the same time. So, it appears that it will be different than previous years, starting this year.
@betwixt Not speculating at all, save for the financial aid point (which is not entirely speculative). See @Learnnewstuff’s post. And with regards to the extension, I was talking about students asking for an extension for deciding on Penn. The tuition deposit, if I remember correctly, was due a week after decisions came out. Many people wanted to wait on financial aid before they submitted the deposit (which was nonrefundable), so they asked Penn for an extension.
To your point about statistics about FA for transfer students. You are correct, I do not have that information. However, there are only 150 incoming transfers for each class. I get to know each individual relatively well, and I can tell you that Penn’s financial aid plays a significant role in people’s decisions to transfer here. Besides, over 50% of the student body receives some sort of FA from Penn. Although the transfer class isn’t exactly a representative sample of the student body as a whole, one can surmise that many incoming transfers receive financial aid especially because Penn is need-blind.
tired of waiting. mid-May sounds like forever.
