Decision: Accepted
Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 1500 (760R, 740M)
ACT (breakdown): 35 (I forget)

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0 (weighted 4.38)

AP (place score in parenthesis): Calc BC (4, AB subscore 5), World History (4), US Gov (5)
IB (place score in parenthesis): Biology SL (6), Math SL (6), Philosophy (5)
Senior Year Course Load: IB French HL, IB Psychology SL, IB English HL, AP Statistics, IB Biology HL, IB Theory of Knowledge, Chamber Orchestra
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semi-Finalist, essay scholarship competition recipient, some other stuff that I wrote down but have since forgotten…
Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Started two service-oriented clubs, captain of debate, in several orchestras
Job/Work Experience: Veterinary clinic, manager and violist of a quartet
Volunteer/Community service: Started 2 clubs, hospital volunteering
Summer Activities: Medicine camps, music programs, took 3-week classes about cardiology and first aid, etc
Essays (rating 1-10, details): Wrote about the first debate topic I had about organ procurement and how it inspired my interest in biomedical ethics. It was one of the first I submitted, so it was a little rough. I’d say 7/10
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: From my former debate coach (which he offered to write before I asked, so I think it was pretty good and described a lot of my leadership qualities). I’d call that a 9/10, because this teacher isn’t prone to exuberant praise, just the facts as he views them.
Teacher Rec #2: From my IB Biology teacher who I worked on research with, so she knew me decently well and has written me other recommendations. I’d call that an 8/10
Counselor Rec: I visit her fairly regularly and speak about college often, so she knows I’m motivated and responsible. However, I go to a fairly large school, so she doesn’t have much time. Probably around a 7/10, maybe an 8/10.
Additional Rec: I don’t remember sending one
Interview: Didn’t do
Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: I think so
Intended Major: Biology with either a minor or double major in philosophy
State (if domestic applicant): VA
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Large, public
Ethnicity: White

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):
Reflection
Strengths: Test scores, essay
Weaknesses: I feel like the counselor rec could’ve been more detailed
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Test scores
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Deferred at UChicago, that’s all I’ve heard from before
