University of Richmond EA decisions

@class22 -D just got one.

My son got that email as well.

D accepted!!! Finally got our package in lower Alabama! Not certain how this helps because it seems to be very holistic and random, but here are her stats: Nat’l Merit Commended Student; Ranked 11/351; 4.45 wGPA; 3.91 uwGPA; All As in IB classes with HL Chemistry (also her intended major with Ed and Pysch for minors); President of Service Club and Environmental Club; Captain and 6 yr Varsity Letterman Swim Team; tons of volunteer work with Rotary Youth Club and missions trip throughout the US. She is so very thrilled and UR is a top choice, but she’ll have to see the whole package. Also heard from another top choice UVA tonight-accepted! Other Accepted to Schools (who all gave merit scholarships): Furman, Birmingham-Southern, U of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), U of Alabama, Auburn University.

@ASKMother Major congrats for your D! I’m from the Gulf Shores area, so excited to have more people from around there. :slight_smile:

@class22 u r not right I agree I am a sr. member studied BS in Brown and present statistics pertain to my sister OK

@MON824 we noticed that there were 2 Spiders from the Class of 2021 from the Gulf Coast! We live on the Eastern Shore! We know a few alumni living in our town (actually 3 who go to our church!) She is super excited… found out last night she also got into UVA! We still have weigh our financial aid options but the VA mountains are definitely calling!

Both UVA and UR are truly awesome! After confirming that the finances check out, be sure to take a trip up there and see both if you haven’t already. I’d recommend dedicating an entire day for each and exploring both Richmond and Charlottesville. You really can’t go wrong with picking either college, though you will notice a lot of differences.

Really wish the best of luck to her! I’m sure she’ll love the new and diverse experience these places to offer!

@ushniz How is this possible - to be a scholars finalist but not yet accepted?

Anyone from U Richmond able to explain this one? My D is accept EA, no money, and already accept at other equal schools w $ as well as Georgetown and Villanova, why would the Scholars selection committee use a limited spot for a deferred student?

Hi!
Just wanted to know if any international student has been notified of their decision. The U Richmond’s website has stated that an email would be given to international students this week but I haven’t received any yet and week is about to end.

@AllOfMe Hi!
I am an international student. I’ve been notified through email on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4p.m… (I suppose both deferral and acceptance was sent out on the same day.) Definitely check your junk mail box, my friend found his in there. Maybe call or email the admission office if you still cannot find it.

@AllOfMe My sister also received a finalist e-mail on Wednesday. She is an international

@nb0425 Hi!

Thank you for the help.
I have searched my junk mail but couldn’t find anything. So I guess the only option left is to contact admission office.
Well, if you don’t mind, may I know if u got in? And what were your stats?

@AllOfMe Yeah, sure!

Accepted from Shanghai, China.
IB:41/42 (School doesn’t rank.)
SAT: 680(CR) + 800(M) (21 for the essay section)
TOEFL: 113/120 (Superscore:116)
Good ECs, and I do love my essays!

Good luck on your application! Tell me if you are accepted!!

@lenvo65 The reason I was deferred wasn’t because of my application per say, it was because I’m asking for a lot of aid—nearly a full ride.
This is what they said:
“Because we are need-aware for non-U.S. citizens and committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need, we must defer your admission decision until we know all Richmond merit opportunities for which you qualify.”

It’s really stressful how most colleges give you “Congratulations!” and then take weeks to months to let you know the financial details.
It’s really not an acceptance if it’s not affordable…
The waiting is worse in a way.
And, they have had all of our forms and documents since November 1st

Has anyone been awarded the Tuition Exchange scholarship yet?

@seniorhs123 - what is that scholarship?

Puzzled by U of R’s merit-based offer (or lack thereof) for my S18. Top 1-2% on every measure, strong ECs, so on and so forth. More importantly, offers from a low of 57% tuition and a high of 67% tuition from four selective to highly selective competitors. Every other acceptance thus far has had accompanying merit $. Offer of exactly $0 from Richmond. It was a bit of a surprise given its sizable endowment and history of being generous with merit-based aid. We are full-pay, so with no merit $, U of R dropped from among the top two of nine, to out of consideration due to not being competitive. Still awaiting four additional decisions. Happy to have generous offers in hand from some really good options, but still can’t help scratching my head a bit on this one.

@eiknarf if the prospective student’s parent works in a university or college that is part of the Tuition Exchange program. Richmond is part of this scholarship network. 10k - full tuition is awarded depending on the university

@pishicaca Exactly the same situation with my D in terms of stats and outcomes. If we are going to pay full price its going to be to Georgetown where she is also EA accepted, that offers no Merit to anyone (needs only). With a reasonable merit offer U of R would have been high on the list for us as well, at 0, they fall to bottom.

I think they are looking closely at what regions and high schools they historically get yield out of and not using $ if they believe its a low chance of enrollment.
