Honestly both options sound unaffordable.
But if you are going to pick one, I’d go to UR since the difference is minimal and that school is excellent in the STEM fields.
OP, momofzag is correct. If you add up all the costs here https://www.rochester.edu/adminfinance/bursar/RCFees16-17.html you’ll see it totals about 66k, including meal plan. (They have meal plans on the page twice, which may be what led you astray.) One thing I noticed, though, when I was plotting out how we’re going to pay for it is that 2016-2017’s COA increased 3.7% over 2015-2016. If you assume the same increase each year (which may or may not be a correct assumption, I don’t know), COA will be about $73,500 by senior year. Yikes.
Thank you all. I have decided to attend UConn’s Honors college and switch my major to Biomedical Engineering after visiting the campus.
I thought about it, and Rochester was just too much of a financial risk. The majority of my financial aid would come from a University Grant. However, my dad is filing a tax return this year (he was previously unemployed). I used a online calculator to estimate the loss in financial aid. Add that to the fact that my brother will also attend a college next year, and I had my answer.
I talked with a few people from Rochester. Both UConn and Rochester are great schools. Rochester has a great program in medicine, while UConn is considered a public ivy.
I’ll just work with what I have, and work towards exceeding Rochester’s medical school’s standards to start out with.
$68,000 COA is both scary and insane, and it’s going to get worse? They are really pushing out the middle and upper middle class. You will do just fine at UConn. Best of luck
