Does anyone know when we get the packed for students who are attending next year? I sent in my deposit last week and was just wondering when we will receive some more information. Thanks.

This may have changed from when my d was an entering freshman but if I recall it was around the beginning or middle of June and then she found out her roommate(s) and housing in early July, much earlier than she was expecting actually.

Yes - it will be June or July. I remember feeling like there wasn’t much communication between now and when we got a big packet with info later in the summer.

Enrolling Student Packets will be mailed out a few days after mid-May. (No specific date has been set, and these packets will arrive at different times depending on how far you are from Rochester, NY.)

In years past we sent all enrolling students a 80-90 page booklet. This year, only the forms requiring a response from the student (housing preference sheet, meal plan information, health forms, etc.) will be sent through USPS or FedEx. The 80-90 page informative booklet has been converted into a pdf file and will be emailed to each enrolling student at approximately the same time.

Every enrolling student should expect their Enrolling Student Packet to be sent out by May 20th. I will update you all if this changes.

Congratulations to all the new Yellowjackets out there!!!

To all of the enrolled students who have submitted their deposits…

An email will be sent out soon containing your NETID and UR ID. This email will also include a link to view the Enrolling Student website. A few physical forms will be mailed to your address in the upcoming weeks, and this Enrolling Student website will notify you when everything needs to be submitted.

This email is scheduled to go out to all enrolled students by the end of the day (5/3/13).

Any news about the size of the Class of 2017?

No email here TSocash. Time to panic? ;)

Hi Denise,

No need to panic. You’ll have to call the Admissions Office so that we can confirm that you / your student is enrolled. Once that is confirmed, we will send the email to the student’s account.

Creekland: I don’t think an official tally has been released publicly yet, but it looks like it is going to be the largest enrolling class in our history.

Hi TSocash,

Called Admissions and confirmed her enrollment. I was told that there will NOT be an email right now.

Thank you.

TSocash - definite pros and cons to that, but overall, glad to see URoc’s popularity. My guy can definitely understand why… Thanks for the info!

DeniseC,

I spoke with our Communications Team and confirmed that an email was sent out to all of the enrolled University of Rochester Class of 2017 students containing a link to our Enrolling Student website. The email also includes your student’s Net ID and UR ID. This email was sent to all enrolled students on Friday, May 3rd.

Please encourage your student to check his or her inbox (and spam folder). It went to the email address provided to us by the student on their Common Application.

Additional information, including physical copies of forms that need to be returned, will be sent in the upcoming weeks via USPS / FedEx.

Creekland, once the final enrollment number has been confirmed I will post it on the forum (unless another parent finds the number first and beats me to it).

The entering Class of 2017 will once again be Rochester’s largest-, best-qualified, and most interesting ever. We have received about 8% more deposits than we wanted or anticipated, and now we expect a final enrolled Class exceeding the 1,200 student goal by a lot, likely much closer to 1,300. We will be able to house all of the freshmen, but we’re expecting to help most of the new transfer students find their accommodations nearby off-campus instead.

Deposits have arrived from 48 states, DC, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Northern Marianas, as well as 71 other countries.

For the first time in Rochester’s history, the most common academic interest among incoming students is one of our many engineering options rather than a biological sciences option. Interest in mathematics, film and digital media studies, music, international relations and our several public health options has also grown compared to a year ago.

The deposits suggest a Class that will once again be 50/50 male/female. 68% will be from outside New York State. 49% will be White, Non-Hispanic, 7% Hispanic, 5% African-American, 9% Asian-American and close to 20% visa-holding international students.

As of today the average GPA of incoming students (unweighted) is >3.8 and the average SAT has increased more than 20 points. About 40 students are enrolling via the new “test-flexible” option, presenting (outstanding) results from A-level, AP, or IB exams instead.

Welcome to everyone! Welcome to the family! We’re having a prolonged, warm, beautiful spring in Rochester, but amid the barbecues and golf days I’m already more excited about your arrival in August.

^^^ Thanks for the info! It sounds great - aside from the housing part. May the Class of 2017 do well! Congrats to all reading who made it in.
