My son was just admitted 2 days ago after being deferred too, and he also received the financial aid email with his VIP number. I’ll say that the VIP number is the same one that is also listed in his admissions portal after he was accepted. I think it’s good news. The financial aid department might just be ahead of the next wave of acceptance letters.
The “Application Change Request” box is back up on my son’s USC portal. I think that had disappeared for a while before this.
I wonder when decisions will come out.
I noticed that this afternoon as well.
Yep, us too.
Not sure what that means.
This process is painful.
Week of March 8.
Thank you. I thought I had read somewhere that they will start sending decisions out sooner for kids deferred to second review but maybe not.
I’m only waiting for Virginia Tech and UofSC now. I’ll hear from Tech on Friday so after that I’ll definitely be even more on pins and needles about my UofSC decision. I’ve already made tons of friends and have roommates at Tennessee plus going back to visit next weekend so my decision will either be easy or hard to make depending on the next 2 decisions.
I know that this is a very stressful time for many students and their families but I’d like to know if anyone on this message board is experiencing this exact same situation or something different in the U of SC admission process:
- Awaited to get EA decision in December and then told deferred until March.
- Received the FAFSA email first week of Feb. (just like many others) that claimed the FAFSA application was under review and was also given a VIP ID#.
- Using this VIP ID# from the email, we were able to go on the U of SC web site and essentially create a "onecarolina" portal using the VIP# from the FAFSA email.
- Within this portal, I can now review 2 tabs called "personal information” and "financial aid". The portal essentially has the look and feel of a college student portal minus the full functionality of what an accepted student might have.
- When navigating through the financial aid tab area, you can also clearly see a 9 digit account number that is alphanumeric underneath the student name on the top right corner of the window page. I'm fairly certain that this is a USC ID# and per the IT department web site page, the USC ID# is only issued to admitted students and or employees of U of SC. I totally understand that this web page information could be wrong and cause false hope for an applicant and that it may be conditional but it is also difficult to just simply ignore given what is stated on the SC web site.
- Having said all of this, we still have no "official" acceptance letter from the admissions department in the applicant portal, nor are there any financial aid awards shown or indications of admittance in the onecarolina portal, other than what I again think is the USC ID#. Others have made earlier posts on CC that these points are irrelevant to the "official" acceptance process given by admissions. Yet, others have posted that their VIP ID given in the FAFSA email, was also the same number shown on their eventual acceptance letter for admission to U of SC.
Im just wondering? Would anyone know why SC would go through these internal processes, if they possibly have no intention of admitting the student in the first place?
@NJOOSNOSIDAM , yes to all of the above, and I agree. It’s pretty baffling.
My daughter was denied in December and she still got the VIP iD a couple of weeks ago! Makes so sense!
It’s so incredibly misleading and frustrating. I got the same type of thing from Virginia Tech and they made sure to include in their email “this does not mean you have been admitted” just so it doesn’t cause confusion. The amount of stress and anxiety I have from this decision is mentally exhausting honestly!
My daughter was denied in December with a 3.93 gpa, dual enrollment classes, ton of great extracurriculars. USC was her first choice. Still can’t believe she didn’t get a deferral! Good luck! So competitive everywhere!
Wow, that’s really shocking! I’m sure she will land where is supposed to and will find a lot of success there.
@ddusc my daughter was denied and still got the VIP ID.?. Good luck!
@Clairebell72 , now that’s just ignorant on USC’s part. No reason they can’t correct that process. That’s really unfair to your daughter.
Hope she’s very happy where she lands. She’s obviously a very hard worker. Good luck to you.
@OceanIsle thank you! USC was her first choice! So heartbreaking!! Our new motto is Trust the detours!!!
Clairebell72 may I ask what major your dd applied to?
I am very sorry - she is clearly qualified. U of SC’s loss.
I am shocked your daughter didnt at least get a deferral. I know several deferred with much lower GPA. I hope your daughter will be somewhere great. I am in an online group and the mantra is “Pivot”.
My daughter was deferred EA in the December wave and just got an email 20 min ago and a portal update that she was accepted! So it looks like they might be starting another wave of acceptances :-). Good luck to everyone still waiting. I’m not sure if there’s any order to things, but we’re OOS (Ohio) and she’s a Psych major…
My son just got accepted as well. Good luck to everyone! We are OOS (NC) and he got into College of Arts & Sciences.
