I’m starting to think samething. If we should pull trigger just in case. If other schools come out first with packages and don’t meet their needs at that point many may see UofSc as more of a potential. For piece of mind I’m thinking it may be worth it.
I refuse to pay for housing until mine commits. Not partaking in that fear mongering that many schools seem to do. I was told UofSC has plenty of housing.
Yes, but my daughter has a roommate that she wants to be with, and there is definitely less ideal housing for freshmen that we want to avoid.
Did she commit yet? If she did and has a roommate then thats different. Mine has not committed yet and is waiting till she receives the final merit info so until then we will not be paying one dime towards any deposits.
Mine has not committed yet. But if she does eventually, she has already met a roommate and they want to room together. The unknown merit compared to other schools is the main open issue right now.
Apologies if this has already been answered, but what does anyone know what the best guess estimate is of when we can expect merit scholarship offers? I know they say “by” mid-March, but this waiting to seal deals is too much drawn out so long. It makes you feel bad for the other schools too who offered it so transparently so early that are also waiting on your reply.
My guess is this Friday 2/26 based on the time frame from last year, but don’t bet a house on it.
Yes same here!
Same. Daughter found roommate as well but both are waiting for final merit info… clock is ticking. She is getting anxious. So many friends have committed to other schools, she is feeling pressured. with nothing to look fwd to no prom, she’s only in school every 3 weeks, and no other senior events not much for a senior these days to plan and get excited about other than college.
Yes, I completely relate. It’s all they really have to look forward to and be excited about! And agree about feeling anxious and pressured!
Yup thats why I won’t be putting down any deposits. Its unnecessary pressure. Ive been told that UofSC never did it this way with housing. Housing was determined based on when you applied. Why the change this year? Is it because kids applied to double the amounts of schools and colleges are all fighting for the same kids. If you feel this way then send out the merit packets because you will then see who is committing and who is not. My child has lost everything senior year. Its basically non existent. Committing to college is giving her a hope of a future. She is ready. And I tell ya, both UofSC and Clemson merit comes mid march…she will be committing then no doubt as she is tired of waiting.
Same boat with lost senior year. So unfortunately there is little else to focus on. We would just be happy with a decision on whether or not my D is in never mind merit. This is the last school she is waiting for. And she’s driving us crazy because she doesn’t want to talk about next steps towards making a decision until she’s heard back from all the schools. Ugh.
I hear you! D’s senior year has been online learning mornings, and the rest of the day “free” to wade through homework. No sports, prom or graduation to enjoy or anticipate. And snow and cold add to the misery. College in a warmer climate is all she is looking forward to. Right now UofSC is her top choice, but we are visiting FSU this weekend and they offered her good merit. If she loves it, I wouldn’t be surprised if the schools that are dragging their heels are forgotten.
It sounds like our kids are all experiencing very similar things! Where are you from? We are from northeast OH and the snow and weather is DEFINITELY adding to their misery.
Same here… my DD does her online classes in the morning, goes to the gym and goes to work. Thats pretty much it. She sees friends on occasion but its not the same because gosh forbid someone found out people were hanging out and they get shamed! Weather is awful too. Although if Penn State gives her a free ride (ha like that will ever happen) she would commit just to have a “plan”.
That’s all that my twin daughters do as well! School, gym, and work. And yes, occasionally get together with friends.
@TMDuo28 Chicago area. Maybe not as much snow as you, but still plenty!
We’re from NC a lil warmer but lots of rain recently. Its 30 one day and today around 70 and an asynchronous day a few kids went for a day trip to beach just to hang out. I see that happening alot as the weather changes over! Many work extra hours and goto gym. We are finally back in person school but many seniors decided not to return because of the restrictions and its every 3 weeks. They don’t see the point. Football is finally starting but most likely no students will be allowed. It’s awlful all of it. These final merit packages at this point is as exciting as planning for prom! She wants to commit and move on. But we just can’t sign until we see everything in writing from a couple schools.
Same and have you seen the weather forecast? More endless days of it coming 🥲
This rain and gray keeps up much longer I am moving to AZ even if my kiddo doesn’t pick ASU .
my application change request box went away for a few days and now it’s back. Does that mean anything ?
