Hey guys, I was accepted into CLAS for USC as an economics major, same for UNC.

I was accepted as a sophomore transfer for both colleges. Honestly, I did not believe I had a shot at USC at all, so my goal all along was to attend UNC and do a double-major with economics and finance which involves applying to Kenan-Flagler (UNC's B-School).

I don't have any specific questions other than, how do the alumni bases compare to one another? I hear that USC and their alumni are second to none, but have not heard much about UNC and their base.

Anyways, I'm lost right now and I am trying to debate the pros and cons of the colleges. Feel free to help me out. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated. I will try to keep a list on the first post with pros and cons for both schools that I will try to update.

I see you're in-state for UNC. Is UNC a lot cheaper for you than USC?
USC alumni are a strong group, especially in Socal. Do you want to eventually settle on the west coast? If so, USC would be an advantage. If you intend to remain on the east coast, UNC will have the advantage.

I would only choose USC over UNC if costs are similar and you want to go far away to school. Academic reputations are the same...choose for cost and other factors.

UNC is way cheaper. Let's just put it like that. I moved out to NC about a year and a half ago with my mind set on UNC. Previous to that I lived in Sonoma County.

As for post graduation, I am not quite sure. I wouldn't mind either coast to be honest. I guess my dream places to settle down would be either NY or SF, but I am not partial to either.

It seems as if I'm just searching for reassurance that UNC will be able to set me up just as well for a career as USC would be able to.

UNC is a top-college...and it's cheap...I'd go there.

It will...trust me, it's not like if you go to USC your education and subsequent life will be different...you'll just be in a lot more debt, which CAN be a dream killer.

I'm a UNC grad and a Trojan parent. You set yourself up for a career, not your college, but I can say that there was at least one job I got because of the UNC connection. I would recommend that you go to UNC because of the cost. Believe me when I say this, since I paid for it, USC is really, really, expensive.

BTW, my son chose USC over UNC, but only because he was accepted to the film school. It is likely he would have gone to Carolina otherwise. Even with being OOS we would have saved at least $60,000 over the four years.

As a tarheel and an out-of-stater, I can tell you that we have a HUUUUGGGEE alumni base. You find us pretty much everywhere-I have a few alumni in my family and I know a lot of famous business executives are UNC graduates. UNC is a really great place to be if you like studying with really smart, down to earth kids who passed up the more expensive private schools (and Ivies like me) to get a great education. As someone who came in kind of nervous about the academic life, I can assure you it's a great place to be socially and academically
