<p>It's not that high school is a year longer in the UK, it's that University is a year shorter!</p>
<p>Scottish kids can go to University at 17 (although many do an extra year at school and go at 18) and their courses last 4 years. English kids go to University at 18 and stay for only 3 short years (usually).</p>
