@all We received our housing application tonight too - it took my son about 5 minutes to fill it out and pay. A bit excited he is.
@secondcup I direct messaged you re: Moody.
I was denied admission to Health Science Honors. But I’m still going to UT! They never sent me an email telling me they updated my portal though.
I was denied HSS too, but I got Plan II earlier in January. Considering I’m OOS and I didn’t get HSS, I’m not quite so sure UT will be the best investment… Any thoughts? Should I let this rejection deter me from going to UT? I feel like I’m embracing a kind of “all-or-nothing” perspective, and it seems pretty toxic. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.
@StraightOuttaTX I am private messaging you about Plan II
With all do respect @StraightOuttaTX , are you NUTS!! I don’t know your stats and all and maybe you’re Ivy League material, but getting into UT this year is BIG. Getting Plan II as well is huge. Congratulations!!! If you have something better than that it better be an Honors program at one of the Top 30’s.
@StraightOuttaTX I think it doesn’t really matters that you did not get HSS since you are in Plan ll. Definitely not a deal breaker, and in some ways, you might be better off without the additional requirements. I guess you are in CNS, right, you can still take honors classes etc. Read through everything on the website about CNS. Talk to Plan ll.
@UTWannabe23 I am interested in what you’d say about @StraightOuttaTX comment. My son in a similar situation and I’d appreciate the affirmation.
@TXDad56 @juststaycool Thanks for the reassurance. I’ll have to talk to Plan II to outline my thoughts going forward. Decisions, decisions
:((
@StraightOuttaTX @juststaycool
I’m certain others here would say the same, but I’ll share our particular perspective re: P2.
DS was denied P2 this year, but made Moody Honors. If he was accepted into P2, it would’ve been a no-brainer for him, even with Shipman Scholar distinction at UMich.
The P2 program carries a greater distinction than just an honors program, it is on equal ground with the Ivy experience. Consider this, professors apply (and are competitively selected) to teach in P2 in the same manner students are.
@romns116 That is certainly what I’ve heard, and in many ways I find my own comment ridiculous because I realize I am fortunate to have been selected for it. Is your son still considering UT or do you think he will pursue UMich because of his distinction there? What I seem to be doing is pitting academics against other factors to determine how they fair alongside other schools.
@juststaycool I affirmed that what @TXDad56 said I agree with 100% - hard to beat Plan II at UT,
He’s definitely keeping UT near the top of his choices, even without P2.
Did anyone else receive an email from CNS honors explaining the decision they made?
@StraightOuttaTX We received it today morning.
Any parents of accepted Polymathic Scholars (either for this class of '23 or prior years) on the thread? DS accepted yesterday and I had a few questions/was wondering how their experiences have been (if currently at UT).
Has anyone been invited to the LEAD Texas event on March 9 - all day? Does anyone know what it is?
DS was invited and is attending LEAD Texas and Moody All Access this Saturday.
LEAD (previously known as Best of Texas) is their admitted students wooing day. Under the greater umbrella of LEAD are plenary sessions, then afterwards each school has breakouts (Moody’s is called All Access) with focused discussions and tours.
@romns116 did you receive a separate invite for All Access or did you just find out that’s what Moody’s breakout session is called?
My son received separate invitations. Initially, we were confused because they appear to be the same event (LEAD vs All Access), but a phone call from the director cleared everything up. Separate invitations that require separate responses.
