University of Texas at Austin Class of 2023 Admissions

Sorry for delay. My daughter was an auto admit – top 4%. She started out as a Plan II and Psychology major. But, at the last minute, changed her major to Unspecified Business and was admitted to Plan II and McCombs within days of making the appeal to change major. She has a solid resume with lots of ECs and her essays showed her Plan II(ness) which is what they look for. She had exposure to McCombs this past summer – was selected to attend MFEA. So, they were encouraging her to apply to the business school. Now, she anxiously awaits an email with invite to interview for BHP. It would be great to be Plan II and BHP – though, we already feel happy and blessed.

@KelliKil Congratulations to your daughter!!! That is wonderful!

Curious-- any other auto admits still waiting? Top 3% in class size <100.

@atxmomof2

yes, DS is AA and still in review. Applied to Moody & P2, but just submitted Honors app last week. AO did say we may not hear anything til December because he comes from a very small class (11).

Has any in-state non-auto application received admission yet?

@atxmomof2 do you mean for any specific major(Plan 2) that people are talking about?

If not, I am AA from a class of 800, and haven’t heard anything from COE

I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the information; however, here’s the latest post from the former UT admissions counselor which contains some info about the timeline going forward:

https://texadmissions.com/blog/2018/11/26/fall-2019-first-time-freshman-deadline-is-monday-december-3

“All decisions will be released by March 1. Starting soon, it’s likely that once per month around 1,000 highly talented applicants will gain admission to their first choice major. If you start hearing friends at school or social media learning their major or Honors, don’t panic. Almost everyone hears back in the spring rather than earlier. To my knowledge, nobody has heard back yet for competitive majors like Business, Engineering, Computer Science, etc.”

stressed that i won’t get into my major considering i’m trying to get into mccombs. hopefully i am qualified!!!

@fatherof2boys People have been mentioning that their kids have heard back from McCombs already, so this information is not accurate. Also, my friend’s son was admitted last year to CNS for Computer Science in December from OOS so there are obviously some people in Engineering and Computer Science as well that may hear well before the Spring.

My daughter was told at an admissions function for BHP not to expect to hear back until February unfortunately though, but we are OOS. :frowning: At that time, they had reviewed something like 10,000 out of 40,000 applications that had been received. This was in mid-October. Who knows how many more they received after that date.

Clearly, there is no rhyme or reason for notification although my daughter did apply by the priority deadline for McCombs, so maybe she’ll hear in December, but doubtful. although it will be a nice surprise if she does and make life a whole lot easier and less stressful!

Thanks for the info @srparent15. I tried to put a disclaimer at the beginning of my post noting that I could not vouch for its accuracy but was only reporting what the former UT admissions counselor posted on his blog today. My eldest son was a review applicant to UT a few cycles back and he received admission to Liberal Arts Honors in mid-November at around the same time that Plan II notifications went out so I knew that some honors programs historically made acceptances in the fall.

Also, just to give further context on the number of applicants UT receives, I looked at the UT Common Data Set for 2017-2018 and it reveals that UT received 51,033 freshman applications last year. 18,620 applicants were offered freshman admission to UT and out of that group 8,381 accepted applicants actually enrolled at UT. So, if as you stated above only about 10,000 applicants had been reviewed at the time of your daughter’s communication with the UT rep at he admissions function, then they would’ve had an additional 40,000 applicants to go through.

Does anyone know if there’s going to be waves coming out in December for non-auto admits? Is the blog post about hearing back in the spring applicable to priority applicants too?

@Texan5362 Historically there has been another small wave Friday before Christmas break. However, most people find out end of January or beginning of February.

Last year a tiny group got in on this Thursday (today) and then got into BHP or Plan 2 on Friday (tomorrow). Plan 2 has already let a small wave in though so no idea if that will happen.

*Correction: plan 2 BHP wave was first week of Dec last year not this week

Heads up… some BHP interview invites were emailed today. My daughter received an email invite about half hour ago.

is the application due at 11:59 pm tomorrow at 11:59 pm today

@shinybell the application is due Dec. 1, 11:59pm CST.

However, the admissions page states “When a deadline occurs on a Saturday or Sunday, the admissions application will remain open until 11:59 p.m. (Central) the following Monday.”

So the true deadline for the application is Dec. 3, 11:59pm CST, and you have until Dec. 7 11:59pm CST to submit other required application materials after you submit on ApplyTexas/Coalition (resume, etc.)

when do ut ea results come out?

They don’t have EA- they release waves or batches starting with the auto admits- then to specific majors. They released some to majors just before Thanksgiving- rest trickles out with everyone hearing by i think March. An email will be sent notifying you to check your portal.

If I have twins and UT is one of the twins first choice, and the other twin withdraws her application if she gets into her first choice which is elsewere, will that hurt the twin that wants to go to UT if they are both applying to an elite program there and they see that the one withdrew her app?

Also, does UT give any preference to twins - in other words, if one is accepted do they generally accept both? My twins are identical and have very similar stats, activities, etc.

I would assume they are considered completely separately. I doubt they are given preference, and I do not think the decision to withdraw would affect the other twin.
