University of Texas at Austin Class of 2023 Admissions

@Sybylla I think the school that’s moving up towards that kind of vision is UT Dallas. They also give amazing merit aid so they are stealing some kids away from Austin. Going there for 6-7k per year vs 25 is pretty enticing. Of course, it’s not the same feel at all. But for some kids, it wlll be a great alternative. And I expect it to rise in the rankings over the next 5 years (beyond what it had already done).

@Sybilia I hear what you are saying and understand the frustration. Unfortunately the UC system here in California isn’t ideal either. Yes, we have some amazing schools, but most are incredibly difficult to get accepted into even if you are an extremely high performing student from California. At UC Berkeley, 28% accepted last year were OOS/country and UCLA wasn’t much better at 23% of students from OOS/country. There are so many local students with extremely high stats that are rejected each year from these two schools as well as UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego and UC Irvine. You can imagine the frustration we have here with UC system due to this. I do like how the Texas system really is committed to accepting Texas students first and foremost. Believe me, we don’t have that here and it’s maddening! There are some caps that have gone into place as a result. The caps are really still really high, but it’s a start at the UC’s making more of a commitment to California students.

However, I do like that the UC’s announce acceptances/rejections ALL on the same day in March (except for a very, very small % of really high stat students receiving a small scholarship will find out earlier). Each UC will let students know the exact day they release so you know ahead of time and aren’t sitting around guessing.

i’m OOS so i’m kinda out of the loop… what does it mean to get capped? is that when an in state auto-admit doesn’t get their choice of major??

@mae2023 means Coordinated Admissions Program, complete Freshman year at another UT campus with guaranteed admission to UT Austin, sophomore year.

@mea2023: It’s a program where freshmen are offered an option to begin their studies at another UT System University and then after completing CAP requirements during their freshman year, they can transfer to Austin to complete their undergrad. Here’s a link: https://admissions.utexas.edu/enroll/cap

Thank you both for the explanation!

But only guaranteed entry to COLA. This is a major caveat. For many is it no better than a rejection as I read this thread.

My DS is an OOS student who was admitted. He applied December 1 and found out early January. We visited UT a year ago and he really liked the town and campus. After reading this forum I didn’t realize how hard it is to get into. We know nothing about the school but he is very interested in attending. Can anyone direct me to info on housing for freshman? I am looking for the inside scoop;) Thanks for any help and I wish you all the best during this stressful time

Congratulations! Just wondering what his stats were for reference? Thanks!!

My daughter is an OSS and applied for CS major, still the application says under review. Is there any hope at this point? Also, anyone knows whether we will hear back anything today or need to wait for Friday?

@ch mamma go to the housing tab on your sons portal and pay the deposit asap. Actual housing choice does not open until March, but it is in order of deposit date.

Hi! I’m an OOS student and I haven’t heard anything yet. does that mean there there is no chance at getting in or getting my requested major

I’m an OOS student and I was accepted to the COLA in early December. I applied to Plan II Honors and Liberal Arts Honors and have not heard anything yet. I was wondering if they did Honors decision releases in waves like admissions and if anyone has heard from the honors programs yet? Is there a set date that they are expecting to release those decisions?

@emood27 I was accepted into Plan II and I know that others were too from my school but there was no definitive pattern to the releases.

Insane, I agree. High performers in private schools, the majority of which don’t rank, are at the biggest disadvantage. The only explanation for kids with perfect test scores not getting in is they simply don’t reach all 53,000 applications.

@UTWannabe23 thank you for replying. I applied after the priority decision deadline, did you apply before it? I guess I’m just anxious to hear from them lol!

Architecture is about a week away from admission decisions

@Corbu1 - they can’t be a week away for priority applications - their self imposed deadline it “by Feb. 1, 2019”.

@Corbu1 How do you know this?

has anyone received acceptance from Moody College of Honors?
