What time are decisions expected today?
Looks like they will wait until after work hours again today. Maybe they don’t want to have all of the phone calls coming during work hours :-).
I read somewhere that they wait until after hours to release admissions decisions so kids aren’t distracted during the school day. Good luck to all waiting to hear!
As an alum, I am so disappointed in UT admissions process. Clearly from our experience at other top universities, some of similar size and devotion to their in-state students, it is possible to be forthcoming and transparent with information in an effort to deflate tension for students and families. Just a “hey we’re releasing at 11:59pm CST” would go a long way.
I fully expect my OOS student to be declined. Just want to know so we can move forward. My student has higher ranked opportunities with$$. UT was the sentimental favorite.

@nrvsmom I think that is valid feedback that I wish ALL schools would take to heart. Transparency with the process and timing for releasing decisions goes a long way (e.g. we will release decisions at X time on X date, or you you will receive an email to check your portal, or decisions will be rolling starting on X date and ending on X date, etc.). I think that while rolling decisions can be great in some ways, it can also cause stress since so much about process and timing is unknown (and I’m not just speaking specifically about UT here, I mean generally).
UT Admissions tweeted that they didn’t have a time for release. Bevosh*t.
just a tidbit- CA universities dont release ANY decisions until March 16 and as late as March 29.
Yes, we have one school that my son applied to that won’t release decisions until 4/1 (and several in the March timeframe as a whole), so that perspective on timing is definitely helpful, I agree @StacysMom24!
The difference is transparency and communication. When you say you don’t have rolling admissions, but a select few to hear weekly. When you say BY Feb 1 but refuse to give an actual day and time, AGAIN, like other universities of like size and stature, it just highlights that UT isn’t student centric. It’s like they haven’t really caught up to the kinder gentler admissions process that most other schools have. We applied to UC also. The difference being I know EXACTLY what to expect from them. The UT cloaked process has created a web of unnecessary anxiety and apprehension. Even Michigan and UNC said “this day and time”. Done. The reality is they don’t need to be nicer. If my child gets in, he may chose it over Michigan where he’s already accepted even though it’s ranked lower. And my subsequent children will still want to apply and still want to go. And probably I still want them to. I guess my point is this: The prettiest girl at the dance should strive to be the nicest too.
Moneyplays, Here is why I think your numbers are off. You are taking your percentages from the 3,897, not the 19,482. For example, OOS (which people seem to think not many admissions have gone out yet) You should take 8.4% of 19,482, not the 3,897. If you take from 19,482, then there are 1,637 OOS slots available, not 327. In addition, there have been articles that show the number of schools people apply to is way up (7 is now average) which means there is a lower chance of an accepted student attending a University. So the number of acceptances to fill a freshman class is increasing. Which means there may well be more than 19,482 acceptances this year.
where did you see this tweet? can’t seem to find it.
@rumorsquasher The director of admissions said that, “When decisions are completed, more than 17,000 students will be offered a spot in Texas ’23.” https://sites.utexas.edu/admissions-news/2019/01/additional-fall-2019-admission-decisions-this-week/
@rumorsquasher those weren’t my numbers. i just copied and pasted from someone else but if your equation brings about higher number of OOS placements, I’m good with that!
@StacysMom24 SDSU has already offered admission to some “elite status” CA students and my friend in Utah told me her friend’s son has already been accepted to UCSB. Go figure.
@moneyplays @StacysMom24 Interesting about the CA schools. I know others who have heard from SDSU but I am surprised about UCSB. I didn’t think they released any before March…
@collegemom111111 I thought the exact same thing and I even asked her to confirm bc it just didn’t sound right to me but she said the son was accepted into Dept. of Physics and she was positive. We are IS so I know we’ll be waiting until March.
Would be surprised if UCSB admit isn’t due to sports team. @StacysMom24 can you confirm. We know kids in to UC but all for teams.
For UCs, regent scholars (and other scholarships) also get notified earlier.
If they are waiting for after school and after office hours, does that mean decisions should come out around 5pm CST?
Sounds reasonable, but nothing seems to be predictable at this point.
