University of Texas at Austin Class of 2023 Admissions

DD still waiting. OOS engr. She applied back in Oct. Just hope they didn’t mistakenly push her app to 3/1

Has anyone been admitted to Moody Honors?

Or know of anyone admitted to Moody Honors? Thanks.

BIZP2424, UTWannabe23, juststaycool, collegerigged - DS stats :
SAT ~1520, ACT ~34, GPA ~4 or ~5.5, Rank ~4/950, weak EC, Avg essay (imo)
Got into Cockrell ECE program, Honors
I logged into portal for the first time just now and couldn’t locate scholarship on the portal, but it was in the letter we received, so I’m gonna protect that letter
DS is still pining for Rice!

@nikbert when does Rice RD come out … good luck.

@UTWannabe23 We are also waiting on Rice. It says 4/1 on their website but from what I found on CC, it may come out on 3/22 based on what they’ve done in previous years.

@3bound - good luck to you too.

@texasdad56 Plan 2 does not always admit you as your “major”. My son applied CNS BioChem 1st choice, LA Gov 2nd Choice and then Plan ll as Honors Applicant. Was accepted to CNS BioChem first on Dec 7 and the into Plan ll Honors 5 days later. You can apply as your major choice or through university honors program. He would double CNS/Plan ll.

@T20hopeful2023 exactly, which is why auto-admits should also be required to have a minimum SAT score. GPA can be manipulated very easy by teachers pushing for certain students, SAT cannot.

I am personally aware of several low, low stat kids admitted…not auto admits. And many kids with super high stats from the same school not admitted. And there are two , not qualified but had influential connections with UT admitted with lower stats. Terrible system

I am with sloan4167…Our school had the auto admits get in (only one of whom is even considering going-rest going to better schools or following the money) and then almost no one from the 7-20% get in despite excellent stats (32-36 ACT scores) and great EC’s but then another 15 below that group got in…including into business, Plan 2, and engineering. Those kids had lower GPAs and test scores and are struggling in the top physics and math classes besides kids who are doing well in class and have great stats but were denied. That is all true. This year has been wacky with admissions. Almost all of those kids in the 7-20% who were denied would have gone. Now schools like Michigan, Purdue, and A&M to name a few are getting them instead. The students will all be fine, of course. It is good for all those other schools but sure sad for UT that it is losing those great students.

I got my decision and it said “Thank you for your interest in The University of Texas at Austin. After a careful review of your application materials, we regret that we are not able to offer you admission at this time.” Is this a deferral or a rejection?

@xtexasmom @sloan4167 and @collegerigged; can you say holistic review - by its very nature it means that numbers are not the end all, in fact, if you took time to study the UT system you would learn that Academic Index is only 50% of the equation for non-auto admits. The other 50% is entirely personal experience other than the numbers. Whether good or bad for the overall population, it is how UT does it and I suspect that every student that got in instead of a high numbers student will be a “great student” too … good luck to all of you.

@saltyboi that appears to be a rejection. The deferral note indicates that they will continue to review your application through February - decision on March 1.

“We find that we must complete an additional review of your application before making a final decision.”

So March 1st?

Regarding scholarship - it appears that by applying and avvepted into Cockrell Engg Honors program, you’re automatically considered for merit scholarships; I believe that’s what my DS must have received. Nothing on the MyStatus as such.

@UTWannabe23 I get the holistic thing…I just disagree with what admissions is looking for. IMO the 25% after auto should be filled with the best and the brightest because that is what is going to improve the university. Instead, they are turning down national merit kids, kids with perfect scores, kids accepted to Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Michigan into their top programs. They are turning down Eagle Scouts with 1500+ SAT and 200+ hours of community service and turning down kids getting into A&M honors engineering in September and getting money from TAMU. I watched all of those happen this year. UT is missing out. The 6% auto admit is already letting kids in from all across the state with different backgrounds and advantages/disadvantages. Holistic is totally subjective and is being decided by people in admissions who have their own opinions and agendas. Bet if engineering school or business schools were deciding who they got instead of the admissions office, those acceptances would look very different.

@aVeryHappyChild “by March 1st” … good luck.

OOS Female applicant for CS rejected
1560 SAT, GPA is 3.98 UW and 4.42 W, 790 on math and bio SAT subject tests, 5’s on all 7 AP tests
NHS President, FBLA VP, Robotics head programmer and other science/cs extras, leader of girls who code club, 120+ service hours and leadership positions, part-time job, national merit semifinalist

Definitely disappointed, was hoping that my stats might be enough, but OOS is clearly competitive this year, and CS is always competitive, so makes sense why the rejection. Congrats to all who were accepted!
