Well, this is kind of a support group. Many of us have been talking for a while. The students have started UT25 groups on Instagram and Facebook. You could always start a UT25 parent group on Facebook!
Castillian is a good option if looking for non-Greek private dorm environment for boys. Callaway is also a good option and is where boys in Greek life live as well. Most girls in Greek life are at Hardin and SRD with some at Callaway.
Is it truly any hope to appeal the CAP decision? Any advice to focus onto if wanting to appeal? Guidance? (Political Science)
Does 50$ guarantee the dorm. My D also put down the deposit because it is tough to get dorms in Austin. She had some friends say 50$ deposit doesnāt guarantee the dorm. Donāt know how credible information this is.

@antiquedealermom and @Bestlife2025 Some of those groups are private and require you to have current students to join and/or be friends with current parents in order to join.

And some require you to have current students. Thatās the point Iām trying to make. Most of the people here donāt have current students yet or committed students so not all of the groups are open to just anyone. Thatās why theyāre private/secret in the first place.

@Bluebonnettx , When did she fill out her housing application? Since we are covid era, even for the fall, Iām guessing there will be no trouble for her getting a dorm room on campus. Depending on when she filled out her application (and thus her timestamp), she may or may not get her top picks.
@BRAVE12345 , If you still really want to go to UT, why not appeal? It will only cost you some time and wait. Iām guessing there will be a lot of appeals this year though and students probably started submitting them a couple of weeks ago. I would submit a fancy resume and update anything glorious you did in the fall. The competition for appeals might be tough especially the longer you wait. If you have a good back up and arenāt feeling up to all the work of an appeal, skip it and move on with life! UT isnāt the only school out there and your life is not defined by going to it!

OOS Accepted - Prospective freshman. From Northeast- donāt know a whole lot about UT- but learning. Can someone please give me a housing at UT Austin for Dummies 101?
What is the situation with all these private dorms I am hearing about Calloway, Castillian, etc.
Do UT Students not tend to live in on campus housing? I thought Jester was a big freshman dorm on campus. Do you kids get meal plans on campus if they live in private dorms or no meal plans at all? Can someone please give me an overview. Thank You so much. Any info appreciated.
UT doesnāt have enough on campus housing, so there is a lot of off campus private housing. All types. All girls dorms, which basically you have to be on waiting lists from birth and many are all Texans!
Callaway and Castillan are same owner, suite style living. Both very nice, Callaway is a little nicer. Both have food. Callaway has small kitchens in the suites too. You can go to each website and see a floor plan and prices. Be prepared for sticker shock though. Callaway is $18k+! For OOS it is daunting. Flip side though is it is easy to gain residency beginning of soph year but plans need to be in motion well before then. COntact UT residency for info as they are very helpful and will tell you the ways to achieve this.
Dobie is private but older and there are some bad stories as of late but some people like it.
Jester is in a great location, has dining right in the dorm as well as some large lecture halls.

It seems Dorbie is renovated. Just wondering if you any feedback on Dorbie dorms. do students from CNS( comp sci) school stay there?
@Bluebonnettx , hmmmm, given that students could put their deposit down as soon as they applied in August, your timestamp might be a little late for some of the more popular dorms (guessing Jester?). Who knows though with Covid this fall. Even with vaccines out, there are the variants now. More people may be interested in off campus housing so they can have a single room alone for living and having classes in privacy. In that case, you may have no trouble getting a preferred dorm.
Do you mean Dobie? I have not toured that one but the reviews have not been favorable from what Iāve read.
You might try looking up your interested dorms on Youtube and Yelp reviews for the off campus dorms. Looking through old Reddit posts for studentsā opinions was helpful to me too. I would make a list of 4 or 5 dorms ranked in order to have ready when it is time to pick if you go with on campus housing.
