So my cousin got into the summer program when he applied for admission into UT @ Austin Fall class of 2012. He was told that classes begin on June 16, but he has this national music competition for that entire week. Is there any leeway around him going to the first week of the summer school? We've left messages with admisions and so on. Has this situation happened to anyone before?

i doubt it. getting into summer program means you were borderline to begin with...is he majoring in music...because thats probably the only foreseeable way that they let him skip the first week. If he doesnt come... he might get CAPped.

He's majoring in political science or economics.

That's gonna be tough. Try and get a straight answer from them soon...because even if they do let him go to the competition, the profs won't cut him any slack when he comes back and it might not make a great first impression if he missed the first week of school. (This is a worst case scenario, I don't know if they re-evaluate kids who miss the beginning of the summer program or not...but I wouldn't want to risk it).

thanks... 10 char

bumpity...
