@Newmommy9999 Wondering the same thing here. I think that’s for priority applicants only, but I also remember seeing that for BHP in general so I’m not sure. If they’re wrapping up interviews this week, I imagine that results could be coming out very soon.
Apparently there are more acceptances today.
Hi everyone! I just got into CBHP and I’m doing a quick info dump so you all have an extra data point.
I’m an in state auto admit priority app from a competitive school district in the Houston Suburbs. I applied to UT McCombs Oct. 14 and BHP App Oct. 18. I was admitted to McCombs on December 6th. Then, I received an interview notification on Jan 13th and interviewed on Jan 16th. Got the result back tonight. As I got my interview a bit late, I actually sent an email to CBHP to see if I needed to do anything else.
Here are some stats:
ACT 36; Rank 2/846; Approx 17 APs by graduation, but more 4s than 5s. 2x FBLA Nats Qualifier; 1x BPA State; Investment Club Founder/ President; Young Investors Society Nats. Officer; Product Specialist in mother’s online business. I’ve some more info in my post history.
I didn’t get a phone call either. Just casually checked MyStatus because I’ve been lurking on this thread and the poster above mentioned acceptances going out.
Good luck everyone!
If my student has not heard today, does it mean that the ship for BHP has sailed for him?
My son got the call today that he got into BHP. Earlier in the month he got a letter that he was denied Business Honors at A & M.
Adding the info I had in other posts:
My son, 1520 SAT/35 ACT/ rank 7 / 834. National AP Scholar, National Merit commended. In-state, applied 10/21/19, accepted into Mc Combs 11/12/19 had his BHP interview Friday 1/17. He was contacted a couple of days before by email. He interviewed with a program coordinator and reports same questions everyone else gets and it seems like they talked about 30 minutes. - Summer library volunteer, Mathnasium tutor
- 4 years of DECA, district, state and international. 1st Place international 2019, bound for international 2020
- National AP Scholar
- Mu Alpha Theta
- Spanish Honor Society
- Quiz Bowl
- Band 1 year
He didn’t have leadership positions in school until senior year but now holds maybe 2-3 lower positions. He has served in leadership with our church youth group throughout high school. He has a part time job at HEB - up to 20 + hours a week.
@gollycollege I wouldn’t say that. My son interviewed SEVEN weeks ago and just got in tonight. They will still be letting people in in February. Until the portal tells you they are sorry but no admittance, a student is not out of it.
Thank you @Jennibc! I am over the moon that as a homeschool led student he got accepted at Mccombs! But this sure would be a gift that he would be sore about not receiving.
@gollycollege Is your son homeschooled too? My son is technically a homeschooler although he has done almost all of his credited high school work through the local community college in what was a pilot program that ended up going nowhere. So great to hear there will be more alternatively educated kids at McCombs and showing that it is a viable path to success in competitive programs!
In the event that he doesn’t gain admission to BHP, at least you will know that they didn’t hold it against him that he was homeschooled. That can be a nagging uncertainty. My son did not get into Mays Honors at A&M which is crazy because he was invited to compete to be a delegate for their LINC program and after writing and submitting his essays for that he was selected. I ended up calling to see how LINC would have identified him as a top applicant but business honors wouldn’t see him that way. I didn’t identify myself, just curious how that could happen especially since they have exactly the same info. Her response, different faculty serve on those committees. After many school visits and road shows put on by nationally ranked colleges last spring that we attended. It’s clear there is a lot of misunderstanding about what homeschooling is, and frankly a lot of unfounded bias. We have a PR problem I am afraid. I am so happy that CBHP appears not to be infected by that.
The irony of the Mays rejection is that it came the same day as he was notified that he was candidate for the 2020 Presidential Scholar award.
OOS accepted to BHP last night!
Accepted to BHP last night. Accepted to Mccombs in December & interviewed for BHP in December as well. In state, auto admit, Fort Worth public high school, Rank 3/557, SAT 1510, ACT 34, AP courses, Summer internship, 30 min bhp interview. Hope this helps & all the best y’all.
@parentof3kids isn’t the acceptance to BHP that much sweeter after the thin letter from Mays? Congratulations and Hook 'em!
Did everyone that got accepted have an interview?
@saltypretzel Yes, part of the required application is a phone interview with an alum. In the past, they have only invited about a quarter of applicants to interview and they choose people who they see as ‘highly qualified.’ From there they whittle it down to about half that they accept as they try to get a class of about 120-130 a year. But if you haven’t had an interview yet, it doesn’t mean you are out of it. They were still giving out interviews earlier this week and last year they interviewed people in February.
Thank you! Yeah, my son handed me the thin letter from A & M Business Honors and said “Rejected!” and at first I thought he was kidding. Hope to hear good news about you from your son soon!
@parentof3kids He got in last night too! (see above).
Congratulations!
I was accepted to BHP as an out-of-state applicant yesterday! It was really unexpected because UT is notorious for not accepting out of state students. Just getting into UT was amazing for me, so BHP was incredibel! Can’t wait until I visit (Hopefully I do so before the March 28 accepted students day as well!)
I had 35 ACT (36 Superscored), 1550 SAT, 3.95/4.0 UW, 5.01/5.3 W, 16 AP Courses (6 5s and 4 4s), Subject Tests: 790 Math 2, 780 US Hist, National Merit Semifinalist, National AP Scholar, NHS, Eagle Scout, Investment Club Treasurer, Junior Achievement Vice President (created small business + compete), Animal Shelter Volunteer, summer courses at UPenn & Drexel, Marching Band/ Jazz Band Trumpet, local Youth Leadership Program, Econ summer program at Cornell, DECA, UNICEF Club. Won a few local awards for Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, and DECA.
My daughter got into McCombs in December. She had interviewed for BHP during Thanksgiving. This afternoon, we saw that her MyStatus portal id is displaying the following message:
"Thank you for submitting your application to The University of Texas at Austin and your interest in Business Honors! Given the number of applications we’ve received and the increasing demand for some programs, we find that we must complete an additional review of your application before making a final decision.
We will do everything we can to provide a decision notification efficiently and no later than March 1. Thank you for your patience and interest in UT Austin! "
What does it mean? Is it kind of a waiting list? Does she still have a chance to get accepted? If yes, how many more acceptances may be left? What was the experience from last years?
BTW, she received an acceptance from Ross this afternoon. And A&M Mays BHP in November. If she ends up not getting BHP, what might be the best option?
Thank you in advance. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
Hi boss, First congratulations again!
Need your help please. Which email you use to contact BHP? I would like to send the email for some questions as well.
@GoLongHorn My son is on a discord group with a bunch of admitted McCombs students and several got the same message. It’s not a waiting list.
I sometimes communicate with Kevin Martin, the guy who wrote Your Ticket to the 40 Acres. We didn’t use his consulting service, but I did read his book and started communicating with him occasionally afterwards. I happened to email him today and he said that he knows that they are behind this year on acceptances to BHP - so it sounds like they either had far more applicants this year, or they are doing more thorough reviews.
