Wow! I didn't think housing and tuition would be that much! The total price is my entire tuition at the University of Houston for 24 credits this year! I'm not sure about this anymore...Thanks!

My daughter took summer class recommended by her academic department during the second summer session at UT last summer. Her academic department had a grant that paid for her tuition, so we just had to pay for the five weeks of room and board. She ended up with a connecting bath, so it was $1332 for five weeks.

There are a lot of 17- and 18-year-olds on campus Monday through Thursday during the summer. They are part of the Summer Freshman Class (which is different and separate from the regular summer sessions). Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays are fairly quiet on campus in the summer, especially in the dorms.

The Summer Freshman Class are kids who were accepted only if they are willing to come for about ten weeks in the summer. They take classes that meet M to Th over the entire summer. They can't take the regular classes offered in Summer Session I and Summer Session II.

Well I would not be a freshman student. I will be almost 20 years old next summer, and will have 36 credits under my belt. But you can apply and take classes if you are going to another university during the school year and are just looking for a place to take summer courses. I am kind of confused by their sessions- there are two, or just one long one? Or both?....Their website was not very clear on that in my opinion. As far as money goes, I don't think I could get that sort of grant since I don't know what my major is. I will probably just apply for some scholarships and see if I can come up with the money. I definately can't do it if it's gonna be like $5000, though! Waaay too much, especially since I could spend the summer EARNING money!!

I would like to take 2 classes during the 12 week session and live on campus in a cheap dorm. That is what I am looking for, and based on the web, that should run around $4575 plus expenses. Not sure I can do this because of price, but at least I understand how it works now! Thanks Midwest!

You're welcome. Some UT kids take ACC classes at ACC in the summer, and you could find people looking for a roommate (or coops may have rooms available in the summer), so if you want to live in Austin in the summer and take some college classes, there are ways to do it that are much cheaper than living in the UT dorms and taking UT classes.
