So I was trying to sign up for my summer orientation, but found that the orientation sessions I wanted had been filled already. The only ones left are in July and I'm not going to be in town for those sessions. Is late summer orientation (the one in August right before school starts) disadvantageous by any means? (Signing up for classes, getting the professors you want, etc)

I’m looking for definite answers on these too. Honestly, I feel like it would hurt us in the end to have orientation at the last moment. Hopefully, there’s just a lot of space in the courses or something.

What I’ve heard is they reserve a certain amount of seats for a class for each orientation, but I doubt there are many seats if any by the late orientation. I can’t be certain on the number of seats reserved, but I’m certain that you would be at a disadvantage by going to the late orientation.

However, every once in a while, orientation dates do open up for whatever reason, including people that change their orientation date or just lose their reservation because they didn’t pay within 30 days. I managed to get lucky one day at school and got a spot for the second one. Turns out it was also the last one.

You should try just checking everyday and if a date comes up that you want to take, you can reserve it without paying for up to 30 days.

^^^ is right. My son switched to the first session by checking every day to see if the session opened up again. He was able to register first thing one morning (about 8:30)
