Hi,
I am a US high school junior and want to apply to the University of Toronto for PreMed. How much will tuition be for US student? Also, my mom is a Canadian citizen as she never revoked her citizenship after gaining US Citizenship, and my grandparents live in the Toronto area (Brampton to be specific). Could I possibly receive tuition as a Canadian student even though I was born and raised in the US? Also, will I easily be able to get into US Med schools coming from a Canadian PreMed program as University of Toronto is considered one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
Thanks

Possibly. Was your mother born in Canada? First generation biological children of Canadian citizens born in Canada can claim Canadian citizenship, and thus, Canadian tuition. You need to obtain a Canadian Certificate of Citizenship, however, and the process takes several months. I’d get on it asap. I just did this for my kids, and it took about eight months to receive the proper paperwork.

From what I understand, U Toronto’s med school is accredited by the same agency as American med schools, so an undergrad degree should be on equal footing with American universities. Be aware though that U Toronto is notorious for grade deflation.
No, she was adopted when she was a teen and moved to Canada for a few years. Can I receive something?
Since your mother was also born outside of Canada and gained her citizenship though her adoptive parents, she is not able to pass Canadian citizenship to you. You will pay international rates.
