University of Washington/University of Oregon

Hey guys! I was accepted into both of the universities above. I received the Summit Scholarship from Oregon ($40,000 across four years). However price is no issue. I love both universities dearly and can’t make a decision. For fellow prospective students, current students, and former students to please share insight on their experiences with the universities above. I’m looking for any info regarding student life/culture, food on campus, nightlife, party life, campus hotspots, professors, dorms, events, frat life, club sports and especially things to do off campus. (Nature and city alike). Any info is appreciated!

I’m not a student at either school, but UW ranks much higher than Oregon in most academic areas. It’s definitely regarded as a better school, and it’s in a large city/metro area if that is important to you.

Intended major? Do you have direct admission to your major? If not, does your major have a difficult secondary admission process at either school?

@Ucbalumnus I got direct admission as a marine bio major, however, I do plan on switching my major as Biology major instead. I’m not sure about it having difficult secondary admission process for Biology but I it is hard for certain other majors.

At Washington, getting into biology requires competitive admission. The base eligibility requirements are not that high grade/GPA-wise, but it is not stated how high the actual threshold for admission is: https://www.biology.washington.edu/programs/undergraduate/admissions . You may want to contact the department directly about how competitive admission is.

At Oregon, there does not seem to be any indication of a competitive admission process or high grade/GPA requirement to declare the biology major, but you may want to ask the department directly to be sure: https://biology.uoregon.edu/undergraduate-program/advising/

@ucbalumnus Thank you so much! This is very helpful
