Putting in a plug for UW…a real up and coming research institution–what many do not realize is that it has the 3rd largest endowment on the west coast, 2.4 billion or so, only behind Stanford and USC. Incredible facilities, built mostly in the last 5 years or so–you can even kayak to a football game. It also has significant and organic ties to the IT community, and is heavily recruited in this regard.
Seattle, is very much a cosmopolitan city, with incredible venues for both food and music, with a very young and hip population. Further it is diverse on many different levels, so not just ethnicity, but also from SES and has a pronounced international flavor. If you want to combine a real university experience with a great downtown, just about 6-8 minutes away…seriously consider Udub.
Okay, thanks. Udub is definitely a great school, and no doubt I would do well there. I was accepted into the honors program, do you know what this is exactly, and if it is a big deal?
Yes, I did go to a private high school.
Same here. I think you’ll enjoy the kids at Middlebury and, although I love UW, I think you should give VT (going out of state) a shot. You can easily transfer to UW if you want.
The Honors program provides some advantages such as first pick class selection and placement in honor dorm rooms. There may be more, I am trying to remember, my daughter was accepted into the Honor’s program but went elsewhere.
In making your decision, although your parents state not to let the money restrict your decision, make sure they are not using their retirement savings to fund your college. If monies are tight, it is best to save your money for grad school instead. UW will get you where you want to go.
@Brodiem, the Honors Program is a big deal, as it provides a small but diverse group of highly qualified and accomplished students academic opportunities and experiences that are similar to those found at elite LACs but in the context of a major research university.

Congratulations on your acceptance.
You’ll only get one chance to attend a small liberal arts college. You can always go to a large research university for grad school.
I deleted a number of posts that focused on “The Preppy Handbook” and similar off topic nonsense. Keep it on point, people, and don’t get personal towards others.
