University of Wisconsin - Official Deferral Thread

So it feels like forever ago that I was deferred. Does anyone know when the first wave of decisions will come out? I can't wait any longer!

yeah i was wondering about that too! i don’t think i can wait till the end of march :(

I thought it was POSTPONED for UW admissions- this is NOT the same as a deferral. Just means you have to continue waiting for the decision.

^^which is the same as a deferral

Have you contacted your admissions person regarding the postpone to show interest? We have not yet

@doberlady how do you contact your specific representative to show interest?

Doberlady, at UW-Madison, ‘postponement’ and ‘deferral’ have two distinctly different meanings.

Postponed is when the admission decision is delayed.

Deferral is when an admitted freshman applicant requests to defer the date by one year that he or she begins at UW-Madison. (Thus this thread should be titled differently).

Requesting a Deferral
Admitted domestic freshman students may request deferred admission for one year by completing the Freshman Request for Deferral (PDF). http://www.admissions.wisc.edu/images/freshmanDeferralRequest.pdf</a> Students who are granted a deferral can read our Deferred Admission Fact Sheet (PDF) http://www.admissions.wisc.edu/images/UW-Madison_Deffered_Admission_FAQ.pdf</a> for important information about reapplying for a future term.

For the purpose of this thread title they are the same meaning

Does anybody know when Madison will decide of the people that got deferred?

I got deferred to Madison and i was wondering if you guys could calculate my chances or anything like that
3.4 GPA
30 ACT
~3.35 GPA 1st Semester senor year
Strong Extracurriculars- Going to Nationals in Debate

NO deferrals- postponements thus far. sara… your record doesn’t sound very good this year, especially when you have a high ACT score. Extracurriculars never trump the academics. Be sure you have good study habits to succeed in college- it will require them.

My D got deferred with 3.49 (3.8 1st term senior year) and 34 ACT. Admitted to Umich. Wish we’d hear from Wisconsin. Does anyone know when postponements hear back?

Do they look at regular decision apps first and then do postponed? And if you’re not admitted until March 31, does that reduce your chances for financial aid?

I think it’s supposed to be at the end of February, first week of March. That’s what some people said. I got deferred and got a 4.25 this semester so I hope I get in.
