Does anyone have an opinion on living in the University Park Apartments (UPA)? How does it compare to living in Morgens or Scioto?
Sorry for the late response…my daughter and husband visited UPA and Scioto… sharing their impressions…
Scioto had a major renovation done recently (2016). Huge windows, so rooms are flooded with light. All the 2 person units are studio style. Big closet/storage area. Desks are weird -dresser/desk combo. Security is good, they make you sign in guests downstairs and are (allegedly) strict about number of guests allowed (1/resident). It seems a little closer to DAAP than UPA. Two laundry areas on each floor. The bathrooms are cleaned by housing staff on a weekly basis (but not the rest of the apartment).
UPA has 2 options for 2 people - either 2 bed/1.5 bath or 1 bed/1 bath. Basic closet/dresser for storage, nice desk with hutch. Unlike Scioto they do NOT clean bathrooms. Two buildings - South (facing Calhoun) which has 2 study lounges, tv lounge and 2 laundry rooms. North (facing Dennis) has lobby with front desk staff, gym, laundry room, and is where the free food is served. Security (cameras, patrols etc) seems good and RAs at front desk are always responsive and helpful.
@FLMom2Four thanks for the info.
Both Scioto and UPA sound like good options. Pros and cons for each one make them sound very close. I will share this info with my S. Does your D have a preference? To me the bathroom cleaning is a significant plus for Scioto.
I agree… that was my thought too…plus Scioto just seems more ‘on-campus’ and safer to me…However, she ended up choosing UPA. (She said if she and her roommate took it in turns to clean the bathroom it wouldn’t be a big deal. Also she didn’t like the idea of the cleaning staff going through the apartment to get access to the bathroom).
She and one of her current roommates were hoping to get a 2 bedroom/1.5 bath apt at UPA but most of those were taken by current residents and they ended up with a 1/1. She still thinks it is preferable to Scioto for 2 reasons - the separate bedroom makes it possible for one person to work late even if the other wants to sleep (right now in Daniels, they either work in the hallway or go to the studio. She thought that would be the case in Scioto too since it is studio style). The other reason is that Scioto is supposedly strict about guests-- 1/resident. So she and her roomate would only be able to have 2 other people over at a time… hope this helps.
Also… she did take photos when she toured UPA, which I’d be happy to share (or I can have her directly share them with your son). Let me know.
