University Towers Housing

Hi,

I posted in another thread but did not get any replies. Is anyone going to attempt to be housed in the UT? It has a pool in the basement and also a dining room on top. My cousin dormed there and it was also quite spacious. She said it is right across from the business school (which will be very convenient for me). thoughts>?

im considering university towers aswell, i think im in the same boat as you, it looks really nice, idk about the social scene with it being private housing

University Towers is considered by many as the party dorm on campus. Why? Simply because its housing is private. They host all kinds of parties the most notorious one being the “foam party.” That being said, the dorm environment is what you make it and I have no doubt some people in that dorm legitimately focus on their school work and aren’t just staying there to party.

I’ve never lived there but have some friends that have and know the reputation. UT is big for people who plan on going Greek. If you plan on doing so, I would recommend it. If not, stay away. Apparently its not a good dorm for meeting people beyond your sorority/fraternity. People generally leave their doors closed (I can testify to that) and aren’t super social (beyond their fraternity/sorority). So basically, are you planning on going Greek? If so, UT is great. If not, it probably won’t be as great.

As for its proximity to the business school, your classes aren’t all going to be around there. You will probably have math in SAS which is on the complete other side of campus. And honesty, State’s campus is not as huge once you get used to it. I lived on East Campus my freshman year and had my first class (9am) in Nelson (business school). It was typically a 15min walk, and the few times I needed to I could make it in 10min (but that was super power walking). So in all, location is not a really big deal.

Feel free to PM me with any other questions!

A friend’s S, who is def. not a partier chose UT because he could take his car as a freshman and I think think the parents thought it would be a nicer dorm and more convenient with the cafeteria right there. His roommate turned out to be a big partier who came in at all hours. Friend’s S was really unhappy and moved in with someone else before the first sem. was over. He moved off campus for soph. year.
