I saw my unofficial gre scores today but I don't understand if the scores are based on the old grading scale or the new one??

If your scores are between 200 and 800, it’s the old scale. If they are between 130 and 170, it’s the new scale. That’s for the general GRE. GRE Subjects Tests are on a scale of 200-990.

My unofficial scores displayed at the end of the exam are percentiles or the verbal and math section? I am confused because the scores seemed inaccurate because I thought I scored higher.

I got scores at the end of the exam, not percentiles, but there should really be no confusion because the scales don’t overlap. Percentiles are below 100, scores between 130-170.

The reason my scores are confusing is because one score displayed 170 while the other one 640?

That would be confusing. Maybe it was a bug in their software? At least you can rest assured that 640 is a good verbal score. Around the 90th percentile, if I remember correctly.
