The five OV limit is for D1 only. D2 and D3 have unlimited.
I think that it’s 5 D1 and/or D2 visits that you can take. D3 and NAIA are unlimited.
Yes, agreed^^
My S was only looking at D1 programs
S just told me today that he’s not planning on doing 5 officials. He is hoping that it is narrowed down to 2-3 by the time he gets there. Honestly, I think there are probably 2-3 coaches that could verbally offer him today and he would accept. He’s like me and doesn’t like the stress of this hanging over his head. My guess is that next summer at some point after prereads are in he verbals with a coach and ends the process before OV’s even start. Obviously that entails him staying on track academically and athletically.
The bad part about being a niche sport is that there are tons of great schools that are just off the table. The good part is also that there are tons of great schools that are just off the table. I think realistically there aren’t 20 decent fits in the country, and probably only 5-10 good ones. If none of those coaches feel the same way, I’m not sure what happens. In some ways it simplifies the process, but it also makes each contact much higher stakes. Obviously he’s an athletically and academically talented kid, so he still will have lots of options. But they are very different than the path he is currently pursuing, which has really been his plan since his abilities blossomed in middle school.
I need a drink! But first I’m going to remind him that he promised me an hour of ACT studying before he goes out tonight. Life will be so much easier if he is a 34 who brings up the AI rather than a 27 who needs the coach to sign some other kid who is a 34 just to drag S in.
