I'm deciding between University of Delaware, Bucknell, Villanova and Tulane. I got a 20K a year scholarship from tulane and I really loved campus, but I'm a little worried about being that far away from home (I live in central PA). I'm not sure I like the preppy atmosphere of Bucknell and Villanova, and they're both really expensive. I'm so lost and I don't know how to make a decision. I just really need some advice.

go to Tulane

Go to Tulane. You'll love it everyone's so friendly and you'll be surrounded by people from the north and of course a lot of friendly attractive southerners.

Hi! I am also from central Pennsylvania, I live in Lewisburg, where Bucknell is located and my mother works at Bucknell. I got into seven schools and have decided to go to Tulane. Yes, it's far away but I think it will be worth it. I have been following the Tulane 2012 message board on facebook and there are at least 10 kids from PA coming to Tulane next fall, so you could probably easily find someone to travel with when going home to PA on the vacations.

I know nothing about U Delaware or Villanova, but here's what I can tell you about Bucknell:
- It's very small-town. If you want a city, go to New Orleans, because BU is nowhere near anything.
- BU kids are usually rich, preppy and not very well informed. They live in the "Bucknell Bubble" and don't have much to do with the rest of the world. There are certainly some groups on campus that this doesn't apply to, but for the most part, BU kids can be fairly shallow and self-involved.
- There is a very classic frat/sorority scene. Even though BU is a private school, there is a lot of fraternity and sorority activity and they have had problems with hazing and underage drinking related to frats in the past.
- The campus is beautiful in spring and fall (but so is Tulane's year round). There's a lot of grassy areas with trees and room to work or play outdoors and the buildings are generally well-maintained and nice.
- From what I've seen, the dorms are much nicer at Tulane. The dorms at BU aren't terrible but a lot of them are old and can feel kind of grungy.

So, your decision, but I had the same one and picked Tulane. If you have any more questions about Bucknell I'd be happy to answer them. :-)

I transferred from U Delaware to Tulane, so if you want any specifics about either school, feel free to pm me. I'm from PA too! (York)

LA is really far from PA your right, thats something you will need to decision.

Tulane can have rich preppyness to it also from what i've heard so I wouldnt count out the others just because of that element.

Looks like you just have a decision to make :)

It's scary when you first leave home, but its a great adventure. Everyone is in the same position as you, though, so you will find friends. College isn't just about the acadeimcs. It's about exposing yourself to a new environment, which will force you to expand your world view. It's great that you got a scholarship at Tulane. Go for it!

I'm from far away too (though not from PA) but I think the best part about Tulane is that everyone comes from far away, so you get here and no one knows anyone. Which makes it extremely easy to make friends, because everyone is forced to. Plus, it's a very social school anyway. I met my three of my four closest friends during orientation, and the fourth I met about a week later. All of us came here without knowing anyone else at Tulane, and all of us turned down big state schools like UT, FSU, or SUNY, etc. I think that the problem with going to a different, more local or regional school where you don't know anyone is that a good portion of people tend to know each other already, went to high school together, etc.

Plus, yeah, going away to school can be a great experience, especially in New Orleans, which is pretty much the exact opposite of everywhere in the country. It's worth the experience, imo.

D accepted Tulane over SMU, TCU, SLU, De Paul and Nebraska. The final determining factor was her comfort level with the school. emCH, I recommend that you follow your heart and pick the school where you think you wil best fit in. As we had to remind D, there is no perfect decision.

Meditate. Itll come to you lol. As corny as that sounds.
