I had my interview with Tufts- my first interview- back in December. The woman who conducted the interview lives about an hour from me, and I offered to travel to her town, but she insisted that a phone interview would be fine. The interview lasted about 20 minutes, and I thought it was rather lack-luster. Frankly, I was hitting myself in the head afterwards.

My phone call just to SET UP my Harvard interview lasted an hour, and then the interviewer told me to expect the actual interview to last 2-3 hours. After having spent 20 minutes talking to the Tufts interviewer, I was shocked.

Is this typical of a Tufts overseas interview? Will a bad interview make much of a difference, or is it true that interviews can only help, never hurt?

Tufts interviews typically last 45 minutes to an hour. But one problem with having alumni interviewers is that they are volunteers and it's hard to maintain quality control. But your interview will not hurt you, indeed many admitted students don't get interviews at all.

Well like I said, just arranging an interview with this man resulted in an hour long phone conversation. I got the impression he is very passionate about Harvard and takes these interviews very, very seriously.
Which, as an applicant, is daunting, but if I can win his favor, it certain can't hurt me, can it?
