That’s good to know! It’s not used much right now, but with the new platform, CC now has the ability to create private groups. We could easily create a non-public group that does the same thing so that folks can stick around on CC! Let me know if that’s something you (or anyone else) would be interested in starting. We would just need someone to manage the group membership.
I question why this change is happening right before college commitments are due. This is the busiest time of the year on CC. Why not a slow time like June or July?
Question - clearly a large number of old threads are in the process of getting closed. The site appears to have me “tracking” every thread I ever read, and now I have >100 “unread” threads because they are in the process of being closed. I changed my preferences to notify me never, but it looks like I will still need to manually go to hundreds of threads and change them to normal instead of tracking, to make the unread notification go away? Does anyone else know what I am talking about?
I had the same problem. First I read all the threads that I am actively reading from the list to get them out of the way. Then when I was left with the 100+ old threads I hit dismiss all. That seems to do it, though Ive had to repeat this for a couple mornings.
I posted about that too on another thread. I was told to click on the “dismiss” button but I did that this morning and ended up dismissing threads I was actually following. Super irritating.
Thanks - huge help. It was driving me batty.
That was certainly an option, but we felt like the benefits outweighed the drawbacks. We did wait until after Ivy Day because that is usually the peak of CC traffic.
This was an unfortunate side effect of closing all those old threads. Clicking the Dismiss button will clear the notifications - assuming there is more activity on the threads you follow, they will show up again. Once dismissed, the closed threads will never show up on your notifications list again. FYI - closing threads is almost done - should be wrapped up in the next couple of days.
So I successfully dealt with the password issue, I think.
But now, signed in, there is a banner ad at the bottom of my iPad screen that I cannot even X out.
Please get rid of this!
There is a Google ads banner at the bottom of my screen when I am on this page; and although I click on the “x” to try and make it go away, nothing happens.
How do I get rid of this obnoxious Google ads banner?
The ads will reset and go back to the way they were earlier. It is a temporary issue we are working on. Sorry for the inconvenience!
The ads are now taking over my screen on the iPad, including that google ad banner at the bottom, ads at the side, top and interspersed with posts, making navigation and reading difficult. I am signed in with new password. This is not a pleasant experience.
Definitely not. We are on it!
Some unintended consequence always seems to happen on this site, with even the simplest of change. None of the other sites I visit frequently seem to have this issue. I had to move to my computer this morning.
So, what’s the process of changing screening names? I haven’t been mom to a senior in years ; )
Thankfully that’s easy now. Send me a PM with your preferred username!
This is happening to me too, they won’t go away even after clicking on the X. They are right over the reply text box, so to reply I have to expand the whole text box area.
Thanks!
The ads are super annoying. Glad it’s being worked on. I’ll return later. At least signing in worked!
@CC_Mike can you get rid of the ad that keeps popping up at the bottom? It obscures the text when we are creating a reply and it keeps popping up even after I click on the X
It will be gone soon. Thanks for your patience!
Update 8:34AM PST: Ads should be back to normal. You may have to close the tab and come back, as well as refresh the page. whew, well that was (not) fun.
Thanks! Gone for me!
