Upcoming semester anxiety

Hi! I’m actually not sure if this is the right section but I didn’t see a page actually for academics (or I just completely missed it) anyway, even though classes don’t start until the 20th, one of my professors already activated the course and I read the syllabus and it put me in a really anxious space. I don’t want to be dramatic and say my entire day was ruined after reading it but… that’s what it feels like. The professor made comments in it like “no has ever deserved an A even though they all had the opportunity to earn one” and things like that. It feels kind of offputting as if he’s on a quest to never have students get A’s. I’m not afraid to do the work but I’ve never had a class where I was genuinely scared before it even started (aside from a course last semester where she required 20 -25-page papers). I’m a straight A student and I feel like as a senior in the Spring it would be super cool to keep the A’s going… I’d hate to lose my 4.0. I guess I’d just like to know how to get rid of these jitters so I can enjoy my next week without being stressed, and succeed in the course. It’s lots of readings and essays and the topic isn’t something particularly interesting. I’ll also have a job for the first time this semester and be president for the first time of an organization. Any tips (especially time management ones) will be helpful. Thank you guys in advance!

Is this prof reviewed on Rate my Professor? Because maybe someone there will comment on the actual grades received. Also, while it would be cool for you to get straight As, who would really know? Presumably even with one A- or B+ your GPA would still be 4.0 when rounded to nearest tenth of a point.

GPAs aren’t rounded.

Of course GPAs are rounded - the question is to what digit. Most people would round a 3.99866666 to a 4.0 on a resume or job application.

No, you’d truncate to 3.99.

Is there any reason you need to take this course with this prof this semester? To be honest, if it’s giving you anxiety, it doesn’t matter if he’s a wonderful teacher or a great guy. This might be your cue to change your schedule if possible to remove the source of the anxiety.

Work hard and be you the people that deserve A’s in this class.

I highly recommend checking Rate my professor. it has saved me before.

I bought a GABA supplement for my kids test anxiety in college. I believe that it has helped them.
