Upcoming Senior, 3.56 College GPA in HS

but I don’t think Alabama offers biomedical engineering

Frankly…and I think others here would agree…if your intent is med school, then majoring in “biomedical engineering” is not needed at all. I certainly wouldn’t turn down a free tuition scholarship over that.

My son is a Chemical Engineering major (actually, it’s called Biological and Chemical Engineering)…and this summer he’s doing a REU in biomedical engineering.

Actually, even if you wanted a career in bio-medical engineering, an undergrad degree is not necessary either. Students who get undergrad degrees in MechE or EE or ChemE can pursue that as grad students…since a grad degree is necessary for that career.

*I could live at home for two years at OSU and have a high chance at getting the scholarship where I’d only pay $3,000/year for tuition. *

??? You’d live at home for 2 years, go to OSU, and do what? Where would you go for the other 2 years?

What scholarship are you talking about?

My intent is med school, but as a backup plan, I feel like an undergraduate major in biomedical engineering is a good plan B and I’ve heard that med. schools like the engineering mindset. I’m not interested in doing just plain biology as a major, but I’m not sure what other majors I have for an option.

And I’d only have to go to OSU for two years to earn a bachelors degree after I graduate (90 credit hours of classwork before I graduate high school, 90 after graduation).

As far as the scholarship, I’m not sure if it’s listed on the scholarship site for OSU, but my friends that graduate this past year have gotten it and are only paying around $3K per year for tuition. There are also the Battelle scholarships and Honors Presidential Scholarship and Honors Medalist Scholarship available. I’m just trying to find the cheapest but most effective way through undergrad without undertaking substantial amount in loans.
