Hello Current W&L Students,

Can we have an update of "Things every freshmen should know" for Class of 2011?

There was one for last year; so I am guessing there will be a lot of new things to add on to the list.

Thanks in advance.

Sure:

Find who your real friends are. Give everyone a chance. And once you find them, hold on. Make your fraternity/sorority decision based on them, and not based on the reputation of the place you're entering. You'll be happier.

Don't join a frat for the girls who hang out with them. Girls, this works both ways. Don't join a sorority for the status. Join it for the girls.

Oh, and drinking is fun, sure. But take advantage of the other things. The bulk of my best memories from freshman year are not drinking/party related. They're from going to movies, both on and off campus, going to DC, seeing shows on campus (hypnotist is a must!), and the like. Diversify yourself.

And don't be afraid to read for your classes. Yeah, sometimes you can get away with not doing it. But it's not worth it.
