**updated vacancies for uf dorms**

Hold tight Bmarieee, we were on the waitlist for a contract too and have already been pulled off and we now have a housing contract… My daughter called them almost everyday, housing department is very nice and helpful too… After may 1 st it should open up… Make sure you are on the waitlist, make sure you check your email everyday. Also there is a ton of off campus housing at UF, it’s actually cheaper then on campus! You should check it out. It’s what we would have done if we didn’t get a contract… Good luck!

@Bmarieee, why would you have to switch schools if you don’t get a dorm on campus? O.o

Mykidisawesome, thanks for the advice. Was there any place in particular that you and your daughter had your eye on?

PrettyPeridot, I live an hour outside of UCF and I plan to commute if UF does not have on-campus housing. A lot of the options I’ve seen in Gainesville are expensive for me. I know I have more searching to do. Can you reccomend any off-campus locations that are reasonable?

How does one get on the waitlist? Thanks so much for the help/advice guys.

Hey guys! The university has a Department of Off Campus Life that can help. Check out [University of Florida Off Campus Life](http://www.offcampus.ufl.edu). They will be the BEST resource to give advice on places to live, how to negotiate leases, etc. Just be careful with all of the additional costs with living off campus when comparing prices (first month’s rent, last month’s rent, security deposit, cost to turn water on, cost to turn electricity on, cost to turn cable on, cost to turn internet on, starting garbage services costs, monthly electricity, monthly water, monthly garbage disposal, monthly cable/internet, furniture, and having a lease that goes over the summer months too, transportation to get to classes, etc.). It was all those additional costs that hit me hard when I moved off campus. :)

Also, [UF Housing and Residence Education | Facebook](UF Housing) can answer a lot of questions.

Good luck Gators!

Bmarieee - e-mail assignments@housing.ufl.edu with your name, UFID number, and what semester you want to be on the waitlist for.

Thank you JorgaUF! I just did. Now, time to sit, wait and pray a bit.

Updated Hume?

@Bmarieee don’t worry about it. There is A LOTTTTTT of off campus housing that’s about 300-500 a month, which is actually cheaper than on campus living. My on campus dorm will cost between 600-750 a month which is why I’m only doing it my first semester and then moving off campus. A very easy quick way to see possible options is Gainesvilles craigslist. Go on there and look in the housing “apartments for rent” section. Once there just enter your price range and browse. I see new listings daily and very sweet deals such as waived fees, free rent for a month, free tvs, and other perks that vary by complex. I know a very affordable place is Campus Club apartments but idk how good this place is but I know its about 300-400 a month. Hope that helps :)

PrettyPeridot, thanks so much! I’m going to check them out and see what it’s all looking like. Has anyone been to Campus Club or can vouch for them? I’m just excited to make a big move.

Another quick question. Can we still get meal plans if we don’t live on campus?

Not sure if this is at all possible, but I want to take out a loan just for my meal plan and off campus apartment and prepay the apartment as much as I can so I won’t have to worry about it. Anyone have any opinions on that?

Yes! Your meal plan has nothing to do with where you live… Most of the off campus housing that surrounds the campus is dorm style housing, find one that includes utilities in the price. Some also do roommate matching. You need to call the housing deptment everyday ,you’ll get a different person each time. We would get a little more ino each time we called. Make sure you are on the waitlist. May 1 st should open up some housing… Kept pushing!!

Does the wait list guarantee a spot? I didnt think I could afford uf until yesterday when I got the Florida opportunity scholarship. So I need to find on campus housing stat.

The housing website seems to be down…and since it’s Saturday, I can’t get any help ):

I have a daughter who didn’t get her 1st choice (Beatty), but was able to get into Thomas Hall (after spending an hour finding availability). I’m concerned about the room not having AC. Should she still look for a better option in case it comes up?

No , the only thing that guarantees a spot on campus is a housing contract. So you should have a housing application $25.00 fee and a housing contract $200.00 . The waitlist is to wait for people to drop their housing contract thus opening a space for you . A bunch should open up around may first. So make sure your on the waitlist ,call call call and keep checking your email. Hopefully you’ll get a contract. We did.:). Good luck.
