I posted this in the general transfer forum, but since Columbia is one of the schools I'm more interested in, I figured I'd try and get a more Columbia admissions specific input.

I'm a transfer applicant from a top 25 private university. I'm a freshman and I'm part of the honors general education curriculum here. One of the papers I wrote was elected to be presented at a conference and published by the honors program. In short, the paper is about David Foster Wallace and group dynamics/psychology (and I'm relating it to economics/poli sci somewhat). Naturally, I want to submit this update to the schools I'm applying to -- some of the Ivies and a couple of other elite schools -- because it is a pretty nice accomplishment. But I'm worried that it will look somewhat contradictory to my reasons for wanting to transfer -- which are mainly the lack of opportunities and overall lacking of the political science and economics departments here, which do not fulfill me. I feel like the admission committee could see this and question whether the opportunities really are lacking for economics/political science departmentss, so it could undermine my own rationale. In reality, this is about my honors core class, which I do enjoy here (but I don't feel it's enough to keep me here). I

Thoughts on this matter? Will it look contradictory/hypocritical? Should I submit the update?

Thanks
