To all those accepted to UPenn Class of 2011… congrats!

I am the first student from my high school to go to Penn in 35 years! (I got into the CAS) I live in the boonies of Mountain Maryland… and its quite a feeling knowing I can get out of here and head to Philly (home of Rocky and cheesteaks… ahhhhh)

I look forward to your responses and posts, and getting to know my future classmates!

The only dilemma is that no one around here is remotely familiar with Penn! For example:

I was floating on air this morning, and someone near me in AP Human Geo asked me if I had gotten into the college of my choice. I responded yes, and she immediately said, "what was it called again?" I answered "UPenn." The girl next to her said "No Way! My brother got into Penn State last year too!" At that point my teacher strolled behind me (she is a Penn graduate student alum, ironically not from anywhere near my hometown) and said "Don't worry, you're going to hear that the rest of your life."

Yeah my English teacher makes us announce when we get accepted somewhere so I said I got accepted into Penn and my teacher goes "Oh great the Littany Lions!". Needless to say I responded with a very annoyed "no!" an went on to correct her thought that Penn is associated with that public state football school.

Yeah...most people confuse it with Penn State. Even if you say University of Pennsylvania, they'll get confused. It's pretty ridiculous, but whatever.

no, it doesnt help. they wont even read the "U" part, just the penn part and assume u L0VE fball that much to go study ibanking there. crazy kids.
its ok, we all know its an amazing school with a stupid name lol. and the ppl who actually MATTER in life know as well.
penn'11 !!!

i actually except people to think of penn state, and i am surprised when they know what i am talking about, even more impressed if they know its an ivy league school. "Isn't that a state school?" or "Isn't that the only public school in the ivy league?" It is hard to correct them without sounding arrogant.

Despite other people's reactions, I know within myself that I was accepted into the Ivy League, and thats all that counts! Its so redeeming knowing that 12 years of hard work has actually paid off!

I think the cool thing is that the few people I've talked to that go to Penn, have gone to Penn, or have kids that go/have gone to Penn all love/loved it.

I have to ask everyone a question... if you did visit, did you know once you took a step into the campus that it was the place you wanted to be?

YESSS OMG
i had no idea what i wanted in a college until i stepped onto the corner of 36th and walnut... when life just came rushing at me and i knew that this was home. i love philadelphia, i loved penn and i absolutely LOVE the fact that itll be home this september!!!!!!!!!!

haha paro.... you will get use to snow and the cold very fast ....and in philly, its not that bad .....ahh, philly is going to be our home soon!!!

P.S. - did anyone receive the reply card/"official" letter yet? I DID! so exciting

Yeah..Penn is always confused with Penn State. U Michigan has more name recognition. I got into UMich with $60,000 merit money (OOS).
Deferred to Penn
Puck Fenn...as they say in Princeton Univ.
