UPenn '14 - International from Nigeria

Guys, i'm kinda frustrated right now cos of the ECs iv com across on this forum. Its not fair on Nigerians as we dont have the chance to partake in most of these activities. As a student, I have tried my best to excel in all the most difficult courses I offer in school. I'm in the top decile in my class. I have also gone for several competitions (olympiad stuff-both nationally and internationally). I am the secretary of the Science Olympiad club in my school. I took the SAT this October and had an 1880. But I'd be retakn during January probably hoping for >2200. Supposing this works out, guysss pls wat r my chances..
+i just took d subject tests by novemba 7. It was kinda cool as i'm expectin a >2200. Pls hit me on my chances. I have also got great essys and recommrndations

guyyyyyyyyyyyyyyssssssss…

I’m not sure… What are your grades? We also won’t know until you actually get your scores. Did you get a lot of help on your essays? Hopefully you did, because, though you may be very smart, judging from the post, your English skills are lacking. If this is at all evident in your essays that will be an issue. Also, your lack of English skills makes me wonder how probable it is that you’ll receive a 2200. Post some more info and I’ll check back.

Best of luck!

Dont take it badly, but you shouldnt even hope for 2200+ if you had 1880 first time. It’s extremely difficult for internationals to get over 700 on writing and CR. Many of those either studied in Us at HS or other stuff like that. I had 690 on CR and 680 on Writing without any of that on my first attempt which I believe is pretty good (even more if you considere I hadnt prepared at all), but I dont even hope that I could jump to 750 on the second attempt.

Guys! Don’t kill anyone’s hope. I took the SAT twice. I got an 1830 the first time, and then after the second time my superscore was 2220. I went from a 460 to a 680 in reading. I also went from a 610 to a 780 in writing.
Don’t give up! Nothing is impossible.

thanks every1…@hopeful_underdog i’d get back 2u.@ballin@thebubble, thanks 4d boost

I’m a student at Penn right now, and honestly the admissions office looks at how you perform in the context of your school and environment. They care about how you are taking advantage of the opportunities that are available to you. If there aren’t many opportunities, but you’re taking advantage of the ones that do exist, they’ll regard you favorably. Also, there is a shortage of African students, so that does help your chances. It is definitely possible for you to boost your score that much - from 1880 to 2200. My boyfriend’s score jumped even more dramatically than that after he did some practicing (he hadn’t practiced at all for the first test).
