Daughter rejected. Wants to study computer science. 4.0 unweighted, 4.5 weighted, #1 in class, Usual APs, 34 ACT, summer class at Stanford, but run-of-the-mill extracurriculars and negligible community service. Accepted at VA Tech and UMD, wait listed at UVA, wait list for spring semester at Columbia. Will probably go to UMD in the fall.
DS is waitlisted.
Accepted! I honestly can’t believe it!
waitlisted at CAS, intl student & applied for aid and LSM program
Kid waitlisted at Wharton.
1600 SAT, 4.86 W GPA (4.0 UW), plenty of ECs, Natl Merit Finalist.
Oh, and double legacy status which doesn’t count because heaven forbid we let them explore choices before committing to $80K/yr.
Congrats to all who got in!
Waitlisted. Declining it in favor of his many other acceptances. I think I am sadder than son!
Son rejected, CS major
ACT 36, 4.0/4.9, CS ECs, Eagle Scout, NMF, etc.
Rough night here going 0/3 (including 2 schools with legacy)
In the same boat today - 3 rejections.
Kiddo is upset.
Same here, rejected for CS in both ivy’s he applied to. Bitter sweet in the sense that decision making is easy Congratulations to everyone who got accepted!
D22 rejected Wharton. Was CS applicant elsewhere but has a Wharton parent legacy, so we thought we should give a try. 4.0/4.73; 1560; 20 AP/IB. Good CS ECs and volunteering etc. 2 Years of Marching band.
A few waitlists (Cornell, Columbia, Duke) but feels hopeless. Will take UIUC CS and move on.
hi I was accepted to Wharton, so grateful!! Just wanted to lay the rumor everyone was talking about a few weeks ago to rest- my financial aid dates weren’t updating
Note: According to the admissions office, Penn’s Legacy preference only applies during early decision, and those deferred from ED, but not RD applicants. ED acceptance rate was 15%. I understand it’s a little higher for legacies where the ED rejection rate was between 75 - 80%.
https://admissions.upenn.edu/blog/welcome-first-members-class-2026
When backing out the 50% of the class admitted during ED, factoring in the 70% yield, approx. 1,800 the 47K RD applicants were accepted. This results in a RD admit rate of under 4%. So, there will only be 1 acceptance for every 24 rejections.
So being rejected doesn’t indicate your ability or self-worth but rather admission factors that were likely beyond your control. There just wasn’t enough room.
Here’s the UPenn admissions office blog describing who they did accept:

I was surprised to see the number that participated in research during high school.
D22 is rejected. She thought that she had a good overall application but several kids from her HS got in through ED . Congratulations to all the admitted students!
D22 got accepted into the Jerome Fisher M&T program at UPenn. Very excited.
