UPenn Admissions

Hello, I am a junior interested in applying to UPenn ED. I am interested in my chances of admission, as well as any other schools that people think would be good fits. The following are my statistics.

-Grades:

Freshman year:
Geometry: A
French II: A
English 9: A
History 9: A
Physics 9: A

Sophomore Year:
Alg. II and Trig: A
French III: A
English 10: A
History 10: A
Honors Chem: A

Junior Year:
Advanced Pre-Calc: most likely A, but maybe A-
AP French IV: A or A-
English 11: A
History 11: A
AP Chem: A-

Weighted GPA around 4.1-4.2

My courses for next year are:
AP Calc AB, AP French V, AP Bio, English 12, and Government.

Testing:
This is my weak spot. I did not do as well as i'd hoped on the SAT's, but here they are anyway

CR 660
Math 690
Writing 790

I plan to retake them in October, and I foresee a 2100 or above.
I am taking the AP exams in French and Chem. I will most likely get a 4 in French and a 4 or a 5 in Chem.

For my SAT II's, I am taking Math IIC, French, and Chemistry, but I do not have my scores back yet.

Extracurriculars:

-Community Service Program Manager of my high school
-Began a politics club in the beginning of the year
-Grade representative for Admissions Program
-Volunteer with a political campaign
-Varsity Soccer 10, 11, 12 grades
-summer intern at a law firm last summer
-community service participant
-...etc. I can elaborate if needed

Also, I am a white female at a prestigious private school in connecticut.

Thank you!

There is a chances thread, post this there.

Considering you already have a 2140, i sure hope your final SAT is over 2100

haha anonymous beat me to it

sorry, what i meant was over a 1400

bump......

you're in the running... its a crapshoot. You'll probably either get waitlisted or accepted if you apply to CAS. If you're applying to Wharton you should probably take AP Calc BC and get an 800 on the Math SAT II C. Soccer babe... nice.

OK I have a 690CR 800M 730W single sitting and I'm retaking b/c I want to go to Penn ENGINEERING ED plus I have a 800 2C and hopefuly an 800-780 SAT2 CHEM (I took in May)...you know why I'm retaking? B/c if you dont have a 2300+ your SAT scores dont stand out at school like Penn. Sure to the avg person a 2200 is the godly mark to beat, but when your applying to a top school your competing with top applicants, many of whom are the best of their kind...so you aim should be a 2300 if your relying on academics to be safe. Still nothing is safe and even if you have a couple of 800s stashed away like me you still better prepare yourself for a deferance. Just my 99 cents. Then again what do I know, I'm only a high school student who studies admissions.

It seems you can't get into Ivy schools unless you have 'almost' perfect SAT I & II, GPA, talent AND leadership, AND sports, to distinguish yourself(unless you are a legacy, minor, etc). I thought you don't have to be 'superkid' to get accepted into top college, but after this year's experience (my 3rd daughter is 'almost' super in every area, but didn't get into the top choices) I would say go ahead to apply for ED if you have any weaknesses. EA doesn't really help unless you are among the 'superkids', and if you are deferred, you'll probably in the 'forgotten' pile. Since there are record breaking number of kids, if the apps are 'typical', it's hard to get any attention. so go for ED. UPenn's ED admission rates is around 30% but RD is 11-13%

I strongly disagree. I think time is better spent solidifying grades or doing meaningful ECs than bringing up your already great scores. They're not going to accept you because you have an 80pt higher sat score. They might accept you for higher grades and/or better ecs.

That's my take.

there is no relying on academics. i applied to SEAS with a 2330, and SAT2's of 800, 800, 790, 740 as well as a 4.2 gpa and 7 ap classes and was waitlisted... there really needs to be some sort of X-factor as my GC calls it to get you into any of the top schools like Penn
