College admissions are like the Oscars, there’s no fun in it (well not really fun, but rather more not awful) unless there is speculation. At least speculation makes you feel slightly better.

Or gives you a heart attack… but really, I love talking to everyone on here. It makes me feel better, you’re right There’s nothing wrong with speculation!

I think I may not have gotten the email because I didn’t fax or email any documents. I only completed the Penn Financial Aid and College Board profiles, indicating that I didn’t need a financial aid package immediately with my decision, if I were to be admitted. I hope that’s some consolation to some of you, too.

Guys I haven’t received a financial aid confirmation and I am freaking out. I received one from my EA school, but not from Penn ED. Please tell me that there is no correlation between receiving this email and acceptance!

Did anyone apply ED to the Huntsman Business Program at UPENN? And anyone ED from NY?

@english

People do get in without getting the e-mails.

Hello friends. Just made an account after seeing all of the panic (and getting in on it myself, I guess). I applied and marked that I wished to pursue need based financial aid. My dad forgot to submit the UPenn specific form and our tax returns, but I haven’t gotten an email about missing forms EVER at any time from Penn. The only two emails I’ve gotten this month have been the Dec 2nd and 9th ones about where to check to see if you were accepted, and before that the last email I got was from the writers house, which marked me as a candidate of significant interest. I’m confused and pretty worried after reading all this stuff about financial aid emails, since I thought I was at least being considered pretty seriously and now I’m not getting any follow up about the documents I now know for sure are missing. Any thoughts? Thanks everyone.

Ya, the majority get in without FA emails: Non-financial aid candidates and those who correctly and completely filled in their financial aid forms.

As Harrovian said previously, committee is probably still going on so maybe they haven’t reviewed your application yet. I know I handed mine in during the extended deadline because of commonapp issues so maybe they are still looking over applications. According to my interviewer, they started committee around the very end of November - beginning of December, so basically they have to review 5000 applications in 15 days – thats almost 350 applications a day if they work until the last day which is doubtful. SO, lets stop worrying and get over this. Think happy thoughts :)

@riar, does committee review every app? I’ve heard different things from different people, but I’d like to find out for sure.

And yeah. Dean Furda’s twitter account says that they were doing committee still as of yesterday.

I read a college admissions book over the summer that said that the ivies give a stack of applications to each rep and they read their stack and after they all read and reviewed their stack, they brief everyone one that person and make a decision from there. If others feel the need to see the application folder – like an amazing essay or something. That was what one book said, so I’m guessing its somewhat reliable.

Oh and I thought I’d share that I just got into Rutgers Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Pharmacy :)

@sc2hotsgm- Hey what school are you applying to? I’m guessing CAS because of the letter from the writer’s house.

Yup, I’m applying to CAS.

Anybody here trying to get into SEAS??

There aren’t many for SEAS on CC (at least from what I’ve seen). I’m applying for CAS.

Is anyone feeling oddly confident about their chances? Cus, I dunno, in the past few days I’ve actually been trending towards the positive side even though there really is no rational reason to do so.

Yeah same. But I don’t want to get my hopes up too high in case the worst does happen.

@waterbaby14 I am There aren’t much SEAS applicants relative to say Wharton and CAS.
Going around the forums it seems like most of the potential SEAS people are applying M&T with SEAS as their fallback.

Do you know which course you’re going to take already?

So, even if we don’t get in Monday…

At least there’s a new How I Met Your Mother episode :)
