Why Cornell? you did not ED Upenn?
I did not but I considered penn for a bit. I like to check the threads of like penn brown duke etc because my friends are applying Ed there ( regular for me ) so I tell them thr information I see on the threads
I know that UNC at Chapel Hill reported about 10% more applications this year…Penn may not have reached a certain benchmark to report, but from other colleges reporting increases, most likely Penn is also experiencing it. So I agree that the acceptance rate will most likely go down from 2019, but why do you think the ED would go up?
I’ve heard from several sources that colleges want to have a better and more definitive yield this year. Accepting kids ED ensures that they will indeed attend, so this would allow for a better yield. Not sure whether this will actually be the case, but I have heard this quite a bit.
does anyone know if penn will take less ED applicants this year because of the high number of students that took a gap year last year?
I’ve heard that public universities have had a huge increase of in state applicants and less applicants from out of state. If that is true, that would make sense for UNC being up 10%. That would also mean that competition for in state schools will be more intense, while for out of state it may not be and students who normally may not get into these OOS schools might get in this year.
A lot of it has to do with covid and the fact that students don’t want to go far away from home and for financial reasons can’t afford to go far from home.
An increase in applications could also be a result of more students applying for greater reach schools. We know someone applying to Wharton that hasn’t taken the most rigor at our high school. Could have taken a harder math course this year, but instead is taking AP Stats. I don’t believe has a ton of EC either, but if he has decent grades, then wth? Problem is, he isn’t the only kid applying to Penn from our school and I don’t know how that factors in or what Wharton likes to see. He’s also not a legacy - at least with his parents. Don’t know as far as extended family.
Heard that as well. More schools want to fill their seats and with ED then they know they have that committed student and revenue. Last year many top schools had to go deep into their wait lists. They don’t want the unknown this year.
Could you please chance me for PENN ED CAS? I am an international student enrolled in the IB. I have a prediction 42/45 and did not submit SAT or ACT… Strong essays and ec’s.
it’ll be tough, especially without that test score, but i feel like essays will set you apart!
Do you need visa to US? Overall, the chance for international students is less than domestic students anyway.
Yes, I will use an F-1 student visa. Thank you though for telling me what you think! Fingers crossed.
If you are a international student in US high school, chance is even higher than outside of US
Would the fact that I don’t need financial aid increase my admissions chances? Or are they truly “need blind” and don’t care whatsoever about whether or not applicants need aid? I have heard different things on this topic from different sources and I have no idea which is true.
If truly need blind it doesn’t matter.
Anyone else applying for bio dental?
no
Just to relieve anxiety, anyone else applying to CAS for Health&Societies aiming for a conc. in Public Health?
yes.
I’m not sure whether my guidance counselor got a request for my first quarter grades. We don’t have a close relationship so I wouldn’t be surprised if she got the request, sent the grades, and didn’t tell me. I just asked her about it though. If she didn’t get the request, does that automatically mean I’m not admitted?
how did you find out Penn was requesting first quarter grades? Btw, I’m sure that doesn’t mean anything. Don’t think too much into it.
