UPenn ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

i’ve honestly been counting down since november so at least just give me date, penn!!

@lolmohnish I sent an application update yesterday!

@BigJah i did the same thing as @vpm1234 did. there isn’t really a point in taking math 1 when you already took math 2.

@BigJah but it’s fine if you took and sent both tests.

@insula ok cause i discovered something cool in my quantitative finance research and wanted to share with them but was sad bc i thought it was too late

So I was sitting there after finishing Chem and I was registered to take lit and I was like, “U no wat, I don’t want 2 take dis.” So I opened up math 1 and took it bc I didn’t want to waste my money. lol

Wow, so many math majors! I chose a stat major which is still a branch of mathematics, I guess. Took BC & AP Stat last year and currently in Multivar/Linear and AP Econ. I took the Math 2 (800) because I heard that the Math I is sort of a joke, but it can’t hurt to send it in (in my opinion).

hopeful wharton finance major + machine learning/CS minor… interested in quantitative stuff but also want to explore behavioral finance

currently in multivar + linear alg/programming… don’t submit Math 1 lol

Got a 760 on chem tho

@lolmohnish yup i found out about winning a piano competition like two days ago… bad timing but i’d try anything that might help!!

Any other prospective english/comp lit majors??

@insula haha yeah im thinking “please please please accept me i will do anything”

penn accepts an indian guy from my school of 60 seniors almost every year and i’m the only indian applying ED… i wish correlation implied causation LOL

I sent math 1 math 2 and chem. I really really really doubt that an 800 on math 1 would hurt me.

@BigJah ur fine since u also submitted 2 other subjects

I was taking to my friend today, who is also applying ED, and she was talking about how Penn doesn’t even look at apps with SATs lower than 1800. It was a pretty harsh opinion, but do you guys think it’s true?

1800?? on the 2400 scale?

@PennFever I think they would still review them for any outstanding awards/accomplishments, but would most likely put them in the rejection pile. Test scores do not define the applicant, however they are a good tool for sorting (especially during the RD round). I do not know if 1800 is their exact score threshold, but I’m sure they would put more time into reading all the apps during ED than RD (just because each applicant is clearly very interested in the school). This is all speculation of course.

@financemajor37 interesting analysis. I think you are right!
