UPenn ED Countdown

renny... i want to study russian if i go to penn....

i wanna study russian also

just a question, whatd yall right about for your most important moment in history, i thought about that for weeks and finally came up with trumans desicion to drop the a-bomb because of its consequences...

sorry im new on this and dont know if it was covered in a different thread

i did the a-bomb too! i know a bunch of other people that did too.

but i dont really care if its unoriginal. its how i truly feel.

awww.

russian is awesome. but you guys will think it's weird. the sounds are too odd to non-russian speakers...the history's really fascinating though.

most important moment in history was the qualifying exam into Pre-AP US History sophomore year, and I wrote about Gutenberg inventing the printing press, since it lead to widespread literacy and a revolution in thinking, aka the Renaissance, and without him i wouldn't be the bibliophile i am today. i thought it was pretty interesting until someone was like 'what? that's so cliche, everyone will write that' but by then i couldn't think of anything to change it to

I wrote about the Mongols and how they paved the way for a Western world. China was crushed, they didn't attack Europe, got gunpowder across and reopend the Silk Road (ideas, etc)

I wrote about the re-interpretation of the Casus Belli by General Nikolai Obruchev in 1892...he wrote it in a letter and declared the birth of a new type of military warfare replacing the traditional tactics with "technological advances". Basically, it required the countries to have a military always on call for constant mobilization. Fear of falling behind the mobilization schedules during war time shaped the Alliance system in Europe and eventually resulted in the domino effect of WWI, which led to Versailes, and the failure of Versailles led to WWII, which, the unresulted German Question led right into the cold war.

i was going to write about gutenberg.
meh since apps are already in i'll post my answer:

Carpe Diem. Countless historical figures sought greatness from these words: Napoleon, Mozart, JFK. In their achievements, we see that the greatest moment isn’t defined but is interminable. That moment is the present. If you grasp it, you create history, but if it escapes you, it becomes history.

you *******! i hate you. i wish i had thought of that. and you prob. won't even get points taken off for a quasi-answer.

i still can't believe the kid whose "what's the biggest risk you've ever taken?" essay for princeton was "this is." though

ya. i know it doesn't really answer the prompt completely.
but i wished i reworded somehow still fitting in the 300 character limit.

omg i wrote about gutenberg too...i thought it was original tho :(

darn. well the short answers don't really matter that much. one of yale's region reps told all his applicants to fill in one of their short answers with "Mr. Murphy told me not to write this."

i knew i shoulda wrote about the invention of the toilet....

haha i wrote the big bang...because what else would there be if it wasn't for the big bang?

are you talking about your conception?
b/c mine was definately a big bang (or so my parents tell me)

i'm talking about the single point where all matter and energy was packed and then went BANG and somehow these little things called earth and other planets became...

i wrote about the signing of the UN after WW2 and how pivotal it was b/c ppl were finally starting to realize that they can't be by themselves in their own little corner of the world- must work together, and some more crap

LOL BOOBOO! you are so freakin hilarious. and very much into Penn.

Choco that was so funny too. i want to do something funny for my Cornell RDs but the topics are so bland...and i really should since i'm NOT GETTING IN lol

lol i was gonna write about marco polo
but guess what, i didn't. i wrote something completely unintelligent =)

ahhh! only a week left.

We've made it this far....

hell... I started this thread FORTY days ago....

I think we can make it!
