UPenn Nursing

Being a junior in high school, Penn is already my top choice school (nursing) and I am probably going to apply ED this upcoming fall. How do the nursing applicants compare to the SAS or Wharton applicants? Is it as competitive? Do all nursing applicants have an on campus interview? Current and potential Penn Nursing students please reply! Any input is appreciated:)

Hey Sheaalala,

I just got accepted into the Nursing School at Penn for the Class of 2017. I can’t give you much information as to how the nursing applicants compare to the SAS or Wharton applicants, but I can assume that the stats are quite similar given that Penn is an Ivy League school. However, if you are interested in becoming a nurse, you should definitely have extra currics that relate to the health-field (volunteering at a hospital, etc). From a statistical point of view, it is not as competitive as Wharton I believe, but it is still very competitive. As for the on-campus interview, I never had the chance to have one, but Marianne Smith, the Associate Director of Enrollment Management, contacted me via email asking for a phone interview. It lasted about 15 minutes and quite honestly, it was the best 15 minute conversation I ever had. She gives you a lot of information about the Nursing School and it’s more of an info session than a traditional interview.

Hope this response was helpful and best of luck! :)

Hi mshell16,

How were you notified about your acceptance? Isn’t the notification date march 28?

megs211,

I got a likely letter on March 7th. It’s not an official acceptance letter, however it pretty much said I am accepted if I continue to do well.

If I didn’t get a likely letter does that mean I am denied?

No, of course not! Only a small percentage of the applicants receive likely letters. If you didn’t get one, that doesn’t mean you’re automatically rejected… You will have to wait until the 28th to see whether you got accepted or denied. Best of luck!!
